II, c.1900 written by Rev. W. Healy. information on surnames Baldwin, Delany, Sawyer, Trench (Offaly) and others "Towards the close of August 18XX, I paid a visit to my former fellow curate and esteemed friend, the Rev. John Bowe, C.C., Camross. It was with no little enthusiasm that I started on my journey, in accordance with his previous invitation, for I felt that the "mountain of most beauteous rivers" which I was soon to climb, would command from its summit by far the most extensive view of pleasing scenery I had as yet ever witnessed. And not only this, in the heart of "the delightful Coill-Uachtorach (Upperwoods). I would also find the old ruins of Anatrim, on a gentle declivity, overshaded by trees whose arm "entangle in clustered fellowship-where monks once worked "marvel," and where, more than thirteen centuries ago, the iron tongue of the Abbey bell "o'er tower and roof rolled its solemn chime." The spot is within a stone-throw of the little village of Coolraine, and just by the conflux of the rivers Delour and Tonet. At present it preserves nothing of its olden greatness.
