    1. [LAOIS] TUCK - Laois to Canada
    2. Mike Knutsen
    3. >Now, that's fascinating! >I am a Tuck married to a Kealy/ Brennan from Laois. Our group came >recently (1958) and settled in Toronto and Cobourg. So you were born in Laois as well, or just your wife? I haven't heard of many Tucks from Ireland at all, but most of them DO seem to be from Laois/Queen's Co. In the Tithe Records I've been sent, there appear to have been 4 listed: Benjamin and two Edwards from Offerlane, and William from Durrow? Those are the Parish names, anyway, and there are separate location names, if you're interested. >1 I have researched our Tucks back to (William)1856 and John >(1860) with accurate references from the Methwold area of Norfolk. I'm a little uneducated when it comes to geography over there. Where is Norfolk, exactly? >2 Other research indicates that the Tuck name comes from East >Anglia, northern Suffolk to Norfolk. An unverified suggestion is >that Tuck/Tucke/Tooke is the anglicized version of the Roman Lucius >family who are on record of receiving a large land grant for service >in the Roman settlement. >http://www.isn.net/friartuck/tuck.html Great link, thanks! I'll definitely bookmark that one! >3 The Tuck family history by James? Dow relates the arrival of >the US Tucks to Hampton, NH in 1637 and thence spreading. >Another group ended in Virginia. >http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/u/c/Rosemary-A-Tuck/ My family would still have been in Ireland in 1637. It's possible that a cousin to my direct line may have left, though! >4 There is a well established Tuck family in Hamilton/Burlington, >Ontario. >Their history is mentioned in note 2 above. Mention is also made of >west coast links.Their webpage seems to have disappeared. This definitely interests me. I've also found two Tucks in Pembroke, Ontario, where my line eventually settled. my great-great-great-grandmother was born a Tuck, the surname of course changed in my line, however she DID have two brothers there, so it's entirely possible that they are descendents of one of them! >5 A Tuck family lived through 3 or 4 generations in Cramahe >township. Their gravemarkers still exist and two three pages on the >family can be found in the History of Cramahe Township. Is Cramahe in Laois? Again, forgive the newbie questions, but as I've said, I'm fairly new to genealogy in general, and only discovered the Laois connection very recently! >6. I arrived in Toronto in 1959. There were 72 Tucks in the >phonebook. There are now less than 50! >7 Try Google as well as the Rootsweb sites as well. >Hope this gives you some leads or at least some additional info. >In the meantime where are all the Kealys from Slatt/Laois/Queens Co >and the Brennans of barrowhouse??? >Cheers/George Tuck I definitely will check them all out! I only found the two Tucks in Pembroke this morning, so I have yet to write them a proper introductory letter. I'm hoping that they are willing to respond! I'd like to discuss this more with you, George.. we can always correspond more directly with email, versus the group here, but either way, I hope to hear from you again soon! Cheers, and thanks Christina!
