This newspaper obit was posted on another list. Thought it might be of interest to someone here. McCarthy- at her residence on the 14th inst at No 95 Lexingotn street, Baltimore Md. Mary E wife of J.J. McCarty, and only daughter of the Late M. and C. Kenny of Wilmington Del, formerly of Sampson's Court, Queens county. Philadelphia Inquirer, March 18, 1862

There were or are Queens counties in the USA--there's one in New York state, perhaps others as well. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens My guess would be that a notice in a Philadelphia paper would probably be referring to the NY county. Yes, I wondered about that myself so I googled "Sampson's Court" Queens.
