The Irish birth registrations only started in 1865. I think your only possibility would be the parish registers, and if you man was protestant, I'm pretty sure the registers back that far don't survive. However, I did find 1768 and 1770 baptisms for Rosenallis people in the Mountrath parish register. Unfortunately, no baptism records for their children born from 1771 on have surfaced. I don't know about RC registers. I assume you've checked the Royal Artilllery archived records and they had nothing? Otherwise, you might luck into finding a burial record, but when you don't know which parish it would be a pretty remote possiblity.
