    3. Hello, I am searching for information about Patrick Francis Dowling born 4/27/1837 in queens (laois) county Ireland and immigrated to the u.s. in 1851. His fathers name was Edward Dowling, and his mother was Sarah Whelan or Whalen Dowling born abt. 1815. I believe they are from the parrish of Aghaboe in Queens co. (now laois). Patricks brothers name is also Edward Dowling born about 1847 in same county and also immigrated in 1851 to u.s. He lived his whole life in his brothers home and never married. I have no evidence that Edward Dowling (the father) ever immigrated to the u.s., but sarah whalen dowling did show up living with her son, in a u.s. directory in 1866. Any information or recommendations on how to search for this family would be most appreciated. I have ordered micro films from the RLDS family history center, here in my home town in the u.s. I do know that they had at least one other sibling, but I have no other information in him/her. Thank you in advance for any advice or help. Sincerely James Dowling, (gr. Grandson of patrick) mizzou@mcmsys.com

    3. Have you ever tried contacting Brian Dowling who has a particular interest in Laois and lots of photos of Laois places on his web site. Most importantly - Brian is building a Dowling database. He already has extracted the 1864 and 1865 civil brith registrations I think it is for ireland and has them on his web site at: http://fp.dowling.f9.co.uk/ For Aghaboe I have some of the people who are listed in the Tithes a: http://www.from-ireland.net/aughaboetithes.htm and there are Dowlings in there........... a description and history of the Parish : http://www.from-ireland.net/aghaboeparish.htm That's an old page and the script font etc have not been reduced as on the rest of the site yet so apologies if you find it hard to read. The legend Bewitched Butter is about Aghaboe parish if I remember rightly - written by one of our most famous story tellers - John Keegan http://www.from-ireland.net/stories/bewitchedbutter.htm again an old page with the larger font that I haven't reformatted yet.
