He died in 1702, & was succeeded by his eldest son Robert PIGOTT, who died in 1730, having married (Judith BURGOYNE, in Essex, 1701), but without issue. Robert's will, dated 1728, is also abstracted in Vere OLIVER's "History of Antigua," this abstract now to be regarded as a "primary record" in the absence of the original (destroyed by fire in 1921-22). But Robert had already sold the Dysart estates, due to family "difficulties" (not least the fact that he despised his profligate & spend-thrift nephew Thomas, his heir-apparent), in 1726, to his own 2nd cousin, Emanuel PIGOTT of Chetwynd, Co Cork. The Major PIGOTT you mention was John PIGOTT, eldest son & heir of Sir Robert; he was killed at the Sack & Storm of Dysart "Castle" on 6 Oct 1646, along with his 19-year old youngest son William, & about 40 others - the event was witnessed by his wife Martha, their 3 daughters, and two un-named grandchildren, one of whom was most likely to have been the 5 year-old heir apparent, Thomas PIGOTT (who died in 1702). His zealous activity as a Magistrate in later life might just have been activated by flash-backs to his own child-hood memories. The original John PIGOTT appears to have been part of the influx of English Army personnel raised in England & brought over to Ireland in 1558; however, his first appearance in Military Accounts lists of Sir Henry SYDNEY was not until 1560; his first mention in State Papers was his appointment to a Commission, 1561, to mark the bounds of Queen's County & appoint a place for the gaol; & the first mention of his property grant, named Dysart, was in 1562. Regards, Chris PIGOTT. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
