The then owner informed me that a PIGOT family had recently leased one of the old gate houses, and were still living there. He did not know whether or how they might have been related to the original occupants. They were not home when I passed by on my way back to Dublin. I suspect this may be the family with the headstones in Rosenallis R.C. cemetery. The Capard PIGOTTs were of descent from Sir Robert PIGOTT of Dysart by his 2nd wife, Thomasine CASTILLION alias PEYTON. They held the estate until the late 19th century, when the last heir could only muster a family which were evidently illegitimate, said to have been his children by a former domestic servant at Capard House; it appears that a judicious Swiss relative intervened, and after the heir & his consort had died in Dublin, possibly under "suspicious" circumstances (at least one may have been a suicide), appears to have disbursed the unlawful brood among different relations, & claimed ownership of the estate by right of his wife (the late heir's sister). Chris PIGOTT. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
