Hello List I am looking for help with Rick's family. His gr.gr.grandfather, Henry Porter VASS was born in Stradbally c1814 according to his death certificate. The same document records his parents as Michael Walter VASS, said to be a farmer, and Jane VASS (nee PORTER). The index to Griffith's Valuation lists a Michael VASS in Laois, Parish: Stradbally; Location: Newtown. So, this looks good. Where do I go from here? Might someone have access to Griffith's and be able to give me the entry for Michael VASS please? Would there be church records - Michael and Jane's marriage? Henry's and other siblings' baptisms? Are these records available for "look-ups"? The family was Protestant and out here followed the Church of England so I imagine they were Church of Ireland. There is also a family story that they were of Huguenot origin. Henry joined the RIC and served in Co. Longford. After he retired he and his family emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria.
