Evening Pamela, Saw your message and not wishing to confuse the issue but my Wife's family DEVOY come from Stradbally in Co. Laois and the family there is known as DEEVY and we have several instances of official certificates for DEVOY having the name DEEVY on them. Most local people in Laois know that the name they use is incorrect and what the correct name is. I would suspect that this is also the case with your DEVINE being called DEEVY. With the local dialect there is not a huge difference between the names DEVINE and DEVOY. I have also come across the name DEEVY spelt as DEEVEY,cheers Leo. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela Dowling" <iregenie@gmx.net> To: <IRL-LAOIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 12:19 PM Subject: [LAOIS] Roll Call - DOWLING, DEVINE/DEEVY. > Hi, > > My Laois interests are DOWLING and DEEVY/DEVINE in Maryborough (Portlaoise). > > An Aussie transplanted to Rotorua, NZ. > > > ==== IRL-LAOIS Mailing List ==== > An Irishman has an abiding sense of tragedy which sustains him through temporary periods of joy. > >
