    3. I also found the treaty most interesting. Because I have both Dooling and Lawlor -- each presumed to be from the immediate area of Abbeyleix -- as well as Conner / O'Connor from Abbeyleix all married into my Mulhall / Munhall family in the 1850- 1870 timeframe and coming to the US shortly before or after the marriages, I am kind of puzzled about the movement to County Kerry. I would guess that the families resettled, as Pam says. But I am curious about it. I note from looking at Lalor / Lawlor websites last night that Abbeyleix was the site of a Lawlor family reunion recently. Other internet searches indicate to me that today this is a fairly common name in the region. Penny Ford USA <<Hi Bart, Many thanks for the reference to an interesting website. It's interesting to note that although the DOWLINGs & other Laois septs may have been transplanted to Co Kerry in the 1600s, by the time of the Special Report on Surnames in 1890, DOWLINGs appear much more numerous in Leinster (83 births) than in Munster (15 births). Perhaps the ties with their ancestral homes were so strong they moved back to Laois in the interim. Regards Pam An Aussie transplanted to Rotorua, NZ.
