Hi Bart, Many thanks for the reference to an interesting website. It's interesting to note that although the DOWLINGs & other Laois septs may have been transplanted to Co Kerry in the 1600s, by the time of the Special Report on Surnames in 1890, DOWLINGs appear much more numerous in Leinster (83 births) than in Munster (15 births).
