    3. Hi Leo, Thank you so much for this input - though you're right, I do find it a bit confusing. <VBG> In essence you're saying that their name really was DEVINE but that for some reason they'd be called/recorded as DEEV(E)Y, as would DEVOYs? This sounds very "Irish" to me <G> - do you have any further explanation or is it just one of those things one accepts? Does it have to do with local pronunciation? Presumably when looking in indices and so on, you also check DEEV(E)Y when looking for DEVOY? So when you find one how do you know it's not a DEVINE? Sorry for delay replying - I've been unwell. 3. Hi Pamela, Basically I manage to steer my way through the problem by knowing the christian name of whom I am looking for and tend to ignore the surname provided it is either Devoy or a DEEVY variable. Having relatives in Laois also helps considerably, cheers Leo. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela Dowling" <iregenie@gmx.net> To: <IRL-LAOIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 27, 2003 3:03 PM Subject: Re: [LAOIS] Roll Call - DOWLING, DEVINE/DEEVY. > Hi Leo, > > Thank you so much for this input - though you're right, I do find it a bit > confusing. <VBG> > > In essence you're saying that their name really was DEVINE but that for > some reason they'd be called/recorded as DEEV(E)Y, as would DEVOYs?
