Now, some of these which occur only once are variations on others but all in all it's an exremely interesting figure. Many of you wouldn't even be bothered looking to a 1901 census index - but for the people whose surnames occurred 1,2,3,4,5 times in 1901 the chances are that they are related to anyone whoh left before 1901 who carried the same surname, especially if we can see that surname occurring in the same civil parish in the Griffiths, and then when we find those unusual surnames in graveyards in different civil parishes it get very easy to begin to join the dots! Anyway, the census index with names by parish is at http://www.laoisgenealogy.com I know I've posted this URL before, but maybe if you count how many times your surname occurs and if you see the name of the civil parish then instead of having to go traipsing through lots of different sets of parish records to try and find your family you might only have one or two parishes to begin with and work your way backwards from there.
