Questions: was Lea church RC? Do you know if any baptism/burial records survive for the church? If so, where they are? I've been trying for many many years to find out (a) who Michael's wife was and (b) where Peter Kennedy (Michael's son), my g-g-grandfather was baptised. I have baptism certs for all 12 of Peter's children, all baptised in St. Michael's RC Church, Portarlington from 1852 onwards. Cheers and thanks for any info/help. Wife Anne de Bois certainly hailed froma Portarlington Huguenot community. It's possible Halpin was employed at Emo court prior to the Earls death and he subsequently moced to Dublin to work for James Gandon. This record, should you decide to purchase it, should give you his parents names, where in Queens he was born/baptised, and sponsors names (always helpful as you may learn of siblings/uncles/aunts). When you have his parents names, you can also search on the same site for any othere children born to the same parents. There are no Fenely or Finnelly names in Queens on GRIFFITHS VALUATION (free site - http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation) which, for Queens County, covers the years 1850/1851, but there are plenty of FENNELLY's. When you have found where Terence was born/baptised, you can, perhaps, look for his family on Griffiths Valuation. After that, you could look at the 1901 & 1911 censuses (free online) to see if there are any Fennelly (or variants) still living in the same area. Good luck! On Terrence's military records it shows his name as Finnelly. i wonder if having been in the British military for a little over 20 years if he just stuck with their way of spelling Finnelly. Do you think writing to any of the Fennelly's in Laois would be helpful? I had contact with a relative here in the United States a few years back who said when a relative died they threw out the letters he had that were old correspondence with the family in Ireland. Not sure what you mean. My relative was listing it as Finnelly in 1834. thank you for your response. I am having trouble tracing my family back and the Fennelly spelling may help. I have very little info but since you are researching the Tynan's you may come across some connection. My great-grandmother was Maria Tynan (not Mary). She was the daughter Daniel Tynan and Catherine Brophy. I believe she had a brother named Daniel. Maria married Edward Parkinson (Perkinson) on July 3, 1878 in the Raheen R.C. Church. My other great-grandparents were James Bergin and Catherine Tynan. I have no other information on them. I don't think the two Tynan's were closely related.
