    1. [LAOIS] Where would a Ballinakill family migrate to in the early 1800's?
    2. Jan
    3. My 3rdggrandfather, Michael Cashin, born c1782, in Ballinakill, Dysartgallen, enlisted in the British Army in 1798. He was out-pensioned in 1812. I have no information on Michael between 1812-1846 when he is collection his pension each month in the district of Tullamore, Offaly. Michael's daughter Eliza, after emigrating to England, gave her place of birth in the 1861 Census, but it is illegible. It could possibly be Ahenny. (It is obvious from vital and church records that she must have had a heavy brogue because her surname is spelled so differently each time it is recorded so I am thinking that when she gave information to the enumerator, he must have misunderstood her). I am wondering if, because her father was born in Ballinakill, if he might have returned home when he was out-pensioned as he would still have been a young man, and that she might have been trying to say "Aharney" to the enumerator. Because the writing is partly illegible, it is not really possible to see the original spelling. My question: Does anyone know if families ever migrated from Dysertgallen parish to Aharney parish in the early 1800's? Or was it more likely they emigrated to another county? Thank you for any suggestion.
