I used to see Cormack a lot, but when I went through all the old film at LDS (terrible condition), I saw that her name was mainly spelt Cormac at the baptisms, and the priest in Dunkerrin was Cormac at that time - perhaps a brother?. Perhaps we are not on the same family, or it is common enough for both spellings? Being a Clark(E) I know the feeling. :-)) Do you have a likely Catherine born around that time c 1800-1810 or so? and died pre 1844? My great great grandfather is Mortimer "Murty" Conroy who was born in Rosenallis, County Laois 1830. His parents are Denis and Esther Conroy (nee Hickey). They were married in 1815 in Mountmellick. I was able to obtain the names of Mortimer's siblings from Roman Catholic Baptism and Marriage records from Rosenallis and Mountmellick. Their names are Margo(b1814), Matthew (b1817), Eliza (b1818), John (b1821), Elizabeth (1826) and Mary (b1832). Mortimer was a soldier in the 99th Regiment (Later transferring to 65th). He married Catherine Meehan in 1868 in Wanganui, New Zealand. So far I only have history on Mortimer. I am looking to trace descendants of Denis and Esther Conroy and hopefully piece together the missing links. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I had believed that they married in Boston. Only because they were actually living there at the time. I don't have the time to go to Mass right now to research, so have been using familysearch. Unfortunately, they have no marriages from Feb. thru April of 1910 for the city of Boston. When I asked them about it, they explained that marriages happened in other towns and are reported that way. Well then what happened to the marriages that occurred in the city of Boston itself. It's possible that Emma was carrying Ethan Jr. at the time of their marriage. Please don't be surprised, it happened more times than people think. I checked the marriage records for Saugus and Everett, but didn't find them. I thought that Ethan Sr. might have died in New Jersey. He was still listed as a typewriter salesman in the 1920 census in New Jersey. By the 1930 census Emma is already listed as being Frank Elton Giles' wife. Eth! an either died between 1920-1930, or they divorced. Emma's marriage record should tell us whichever it was. Actually the name Crosthwaite is English. There is actually a town in England that carries the Crosthwaite name in Keswick, England. The name stands for the cross in the field. When the family branched off, part stayed in England, part went to Scotland and part went to Ireland. Our lines so far are traced back to Queen's County Ireland. I have photo's of John Crosthwaite's headstone from the St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery in Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada. I also have one (poor) photo of Samuel Crosthwaite and we have at least one maybe two of Catherine Fawcett. Your mother is right about the Salsman name. Some spellings are still done with the 'Z', some are not. If you look at the records for Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, you'll see that some have two "nn". These were written this way because many people didn't know how to write and those that kept records (church or state), spelled it the way it sounded. Entry no 47, page 163 of the Tithe Applotments Register for the year 1830 held at the National Archives in Dublin provides the following info: Name: Widow Goss, land size 3 Acres, first class one acre, second class two roods and third class one acre two roods. the annual tithe was four shillings and seven pence one farthing. Only one of the surname recorded for Trummery townsland.I came upon this information while researching my own family records in the tithe registers. Only one Goss ..a William Goss is recorded at map ref 56 with house and land size one acre one rood and 24 perches at Griffiths valuation for the same townsland, then spelled as Trumra. When comparing land sizes for both valuations one must account for tithes values in irish acres and griffiths in statute (english) acres. one irish acre = 1.619 statute.
