Marysborough - no record of name same Borris in Ossory Another idea that the names are the Civil Registration Districts within which they lived a radius of up to 12 miles from the named town. Often children were christened in the RC faith in the mother's Parish as daughters went home to have babies, sometimes 1st and 2nd children would be baptised there. I don't know the RC faith but baptism's take place quickly whereas the CofI didn't and you would usually see baptised anywhere from the 1st. Sunday after a birth and sometimes months later. Parish's changed as they would amalgamate and leave as the Diocese saw a need which might explain. Annette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So 1926 is the next. I know the 1901/1911 are free and do refer people to this, I don't think I was talking about that when I referred to costs. I don't understand the UK selling theirs to the pay for view either perhaps they didn't want to bother with digitization. I use a free bmd site for England. Its pretty good. I believe I was talking about the History Foundation whose members are the individual county genealogy offices and the auditor general's reviews. I try to think of it as bringing income to these county offices but it is sometimes beyond some people budget and definitely the Ancestry information is well beyond many people's affordability with what little info they have on Ireland. Great for research in the US though. Annette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You can look these up yourself by using the Foundation records I use. This is a pay website but you can look at a minimal information record, name and date with no charge. You can contact me at codeannette@yahoo.ca with Foundation/Queen's Co. in the Subject and I will give you the website. Its worth a look. Author: rosthompson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/2803.2.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Annette. I am from Ireland, and even here researching can be difficult. Just to correct a few points, there was no census in 1921. Due to the War of Independence which was being fought by Irish nationalists at the time against the British Government, it was deemed far too dangerous to send government officials into rural areas asking questions which many viewed as intelligence gathering rather than its true purpose. The census was eventually carried out in 1926 instead. The present government have made a commitment to release it early, but as the amount of information is far greater than previous censuses, it is estimated to take at least 3 years to transcribe fully. I must also take issue with the discussion on cost. The complete 1901 and 1911 census are available free of charge on www.nationalarchives.ie along with other valuable data - unlike most other countries who have sold census info to pay for view sites. I just came across your post and it got my attention. My gggreat-grandfather was John Haslam and he was living in Grange in 1828 when my ggreat-grandfather, Edward, was born. Edward was baptized at SS Peter & Paul in Maryborough. John had a son named Joseph who was baptized in 1808. My Haslams were Catholic as well. Joseph's siblings, besides Edward, were Mary, Sophia, Alice, Philip, Ann, Henry, & William. His mother was Ann O'Connor/Connors. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more info about my Joseph other than what I have. When my family emigrated they stayed in Auburn, NY for a while, then Indiana, and, finally, Michigan. I haven't found any evidence of Joseph having been with them here in the US. Good luck. Let me know if you'd like any more info to help narrow down your search. There were a lot of Haslams in Laois Co., but not many of them were Catholic. That should help. Roxanne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [LAOIS] Marriage of McLOUGHLIN and BERGIN of Mount Mellick abt.1843
    2. Clive Boyce
    3. I have the baptism of Thomas McLOUGHLIN at Mount Mellick on 14 Nov 1847, father Patrick McLOUGHLIN and mother Bridget BERGIN. There were five other children with these parents baptised at Mount Mellick in the period 1844 -1854, see http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/laois/churches/mtmellick-bap-m.txt I note that a Patrick McLOUGHLIN had a daughter Jane baptised at Mount Mellick on 9 Feb 1840 but the mother was Mgt: MALONE. I suspect the mother, Margaret, died shortly after this and Patrick then married Bridget BERGIN. I am looking for the marriage of Patrick McLOUGHLIN to Bridget BERGIN around 1843/44 and the likely marriage of Patrick McLOUGHLIN to Margaret MALONE around 1840 Any help would be very much appreciated. 1. [LAOIS] LAWLER SURNAME
    2. Antoinette Waughtel Sorensen
    3. The LAWLER name is connected to our WHITE (WHYTE in Ireland) name. According to information I have Mary Elizabeth LAWLER (married Humphrey White Jr in Illinois) was born February 5, 1852 in Queens County, Ireland. I believe her parents may have been Patrick LAWLER and Mary WHITE (this is due only to the fact the informant on her certificate of death indicated father as Patrick WHITE and mother Mary LAWLER). Mary was known as "Lizzie". Her sister Catherine Elizabeth LAWLER was born circa 1835 Ireland. She married Fenton McGowan who was born circa 1823 Ireland and nothing else known on him. I would like to find any siblings of these two sisters and "feel" there would have been some in the 17 year age span difference of these two ladies. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. I wish I had more info to give but this is the extent of my knowledge of the LAWLER's. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
