Author: colinclarke1945 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/2832.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see on the map that Ballybrophy is about 37km (22 miles) from Brickanagh, so it is probably a different family. My G G GM Catherine Delaney did have siblings including John Delaney 1824 Patrick Delaney 1825 Michael Delaney 1827 James Delaney 1829 (G G GM Catherine Delaney 1835) and John Delaney 1838. As far as I can tell, the mother Catherine Kitty Cormac died sometime before 1844, because there is another marriage for an Andrew Delaney to an Ellen Kelly in 1844, with familiar witness names. I don't see any children though. Catherine reported on arrival in Australia 1855 (to live with her Tierney cousins) that her parents Andrew and Kitty were both dead. I have never found records of the burials of Andrew or Kitty. I just have to assume that some descendants are still in the general area of Brickanagh (Bricane) even now. I wish I knew. BTW, the spelling of Delaney is sometimes with the E and sometimes just Delany. Happy Holidays everyone. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have a few names from around Brickanagh (Bricane) village, Dunkerrin Parish. I know you mentioned Queens County - but I have found the names/parishes more or less blend in around that part of North Tipperary and Queens County. I don't have much. Mainly a few of Delaney/Cormac/Tierney. My G G GM was Catherine DELANEY baptised 5 Apr 1835 parents Andrew DELANEY and Kitty CORMAC. Andrew's sister was married to TIERNEY etc. As far as I know, the parents were all dead before Catherine went to Australia on the BEE in 1856. Information is hard to get from around there, as you know. :-)) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [LAOIS] CONNORS/O'CONNORS GROCERY SHOP, FRENCH CHURCH STREET, PORTARLINGTON 1880s to ??
    2. colette o rorke
    3. Hello list I've just discovered that my g-g-granduncle, MICHAEL CONNORS/O'CONNOR and his wife JANE DEMPSEY had a grocery & provisions shop from at least the 1880's, in French Church Street, Portarlington Town. Michael retired c. 1906, when one of their sons, THOMAS and wife MARY, took over the business. I'd love to have any photos of the shop/street from those times, or any information about the business, so if anybody can help me, I'd be delighted to hear from them. Thanks in advance. Colette

    2. colette o rorke
    3. Hi list I am looking for the death info of Margaret Egan (nee Connors, nee Maher) who died in Portarlington c. 1890. She would have been about 80 years of age. She married Michael Connors in St. Michaels Church, Portarlington on 6 January 1832, and had 4 children as follows: Mary Anne - Jan 1833 (married Peter Kennedy)Michael - Sept 1835 (married Jane Dempsey)Margaret - Oct 1839 (married Jeremiah Gunning)Thomas - Jan 1841 - emigrated to America and was killed at the Battle of Gettysburgh in 1863. Her husband MICHAEL was killed in an accident, but I don't know how he died, or when, but it must have been about 1842/43 because ...................... She subsequently married JOHN EGAN 18 October 1844 and had 2 girls: Catherine - 13 March 1846+ unknown child She lived all her life in Portarlington, so I expect that she is buried in the area. Any help or info. would be appreciated. Colette

Author: glaspaircs Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/2829.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'd recommend looking at the link you've been given for the genealogists signed up with the National Library. There's a good variety and you can get and compare prices and what they'll do for you for the price quoted. Other services can have some problem with timeliness and responsiveness. There's also a list of researchers on the National Archives of Ireland website that's a good one too. Ireland is very small, people don't have to live in or near Laois to do research in Laois while living elsewhere in Ireland. You can get from east coast to west coast in Ireland in about 3 hours without a meal break so researching the entire country isn't that difficult. I'm a professional genealogist in Ireland with ancestors in Laois (and other places too) but can't help at the moment or the foreseeable future because I'm working on commissions for people in Ireland and the US. Best of luck with your research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We may be long, long back cousins or something, although it is really hard to research from afar (Australia) as online records do not give parents' names, so, as you say, tracing siblings of your own ancestor is almost impossible. The brickwall appears far too early. Best of luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
