I agree that Co. Laois is the key locale. Fortunately, my William Bonham's marriage record clearly stated his mother's Ramsbottom name, which in fairly short order, let me to Abbeyleix. I have a cousin that lives in Carlow and she may be able to follow up on some leads locally, depending on her schedule. However, I will follow up on the leads you suggest and will post what I learn. Ramsbottom, age 19, arr at the Port of NYC on 16 AUG 1903 on the Ship "Celtic" from Queenstown, IRE. I also came across a Henry Ramsbottom during the course of this research. This was a death entry - Henry Ramsbottom, age 62, quarter ending March 1919, Registrar's District - Athy, Vol. 3, page 299. I also rec an Ancestry Board message, dated 03 NOV 2005 10:30PM, GMT, from a Jack McDonald, e-mail: eaglebald@eircom.net with listings of several Ramsbottom's buried at Fossy Cem, Timahoe, Co. Laois. Ireland. One of these was a Henry, (Ballinaclough) 16-1-1811 76. There was also another Henry Ramsbottom, 13-1-1919 68. Also, additional Ramsbottom info of possible value might be obtained via GwynnWilliams@compuserve.com I'm confident that all Ramsbottom's must be related due to the uncommonness of the surname. It would appear that Co. Laois would be key to your research. I hope that my information proves to be of some assistance to you. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and yours. The first listing you have for Bridget Delan(e)y in 1910 looks to be the correct lady. I just knew that she had disappeared in the 1911 Census, and Denis was widowed, so I knew she had died in the timeframe between 1901-1911. Given the lady in the Cemetery's Tullyroe address, and burial by Denis, she appears to be the right lady...she just died later than I surmised from the Civil Records. Given how many Delany's there were, it is no surprise that there might be more than one Bridget! On my next trip to Ireland, I will definitely plan a stop in Abbeyleix. All of this will, hopefully, help me uncover more of William Bonham's (Jr.'s) history. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the kin emigrated - but I know in due time, I will find some of them! Again, my sincere thanks for doing these lookups for me. Best regards, Joann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I suspect everyone else is also part of the extended family and with work, I can piece some of that together. As for William Bonham, Jr., I suspect he is buried with a first spouse/children from that marriage. Late in life, he worked as a mill manager for Odlum's Mill in St. Mullins,so he could have worked at any of their other sites and had a family far afield. Wm. Jr. is definitely not buried in St. Mullins, so I suspect that might be what happened. My great-grandmother is buried with her first husband, my great-grandfather, who is the only man with whom she had children. Joseph Bonham, the postal guy, is probably the son of John and Mary Bonham. In 1901, a John of the correct age and a wife, Mary, lived in Abbeyleix on Temperence St. with Joseph and other children, including a son John, who is the same age as the Streamstown John that you listed... I am not sure who these folks are or how they might be related at this point in time. I do know, that William Sr. and Cath had a daughter, Bridget (born 1853), who married a Denis Delany (as per Irish 1901 Census as Cath. is living with them...) As of 1901, they had Timothy, William and Johnnie. In 1911, I found all (listed as Delaney) but Bridget still living in Abbeyleix - and a death for a Bridget Delany recorded for Jul-Aug-Sep 1903. My guess is that she is buried near Catherine and William Sr. Can you confirm that for me? Thank you so much for your help. This is such valuable info that will help me piece together this branch. 1975, Florence A. Fee wrote a book "Salt of the Earth" about the WHITTAKER'S & THE STONE'S. The following are quotes from her book. After the building of Abbeyleix by Viscount de Vesci, (between 1773 - 1778) the first WHITTAKER'S & STONE'S of whom we have detailed knowledge moved from neighbouring County Carlow into Queen's (Laois) County. Three WHITTAKER brothers (Arthur, Andrew, Edward) in return for their support they had rendered Oliver Cromwell, in respect to the establishment of his Commonwealth in England, had in 1652, been granted properties in Ireland. It is not known where they lived in England, but in Carlow County, Ireland, one brother received a "mill" and the other two farms. Having people respond with information re. these families would be the BEST Christmas present! Here's hoping. Thank you. Helen

Hi List After years and years of wondering, I've just discovered the details of how and when my great-grandaunt HENRIETTA DWYER nee KENNEDY (born in Portarlington Oct 1874) travelled from Sydney, Australia to Ireland for the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin in June 1932. It was an epic journey, and of course I'm very excited and delighted to have finally found the info! Another interesting bit is that, according to the Ships Records, her proposed address was BARRY VIEW, Portarlington, and I'm wondering who lived at that address then as I've never come across it before? It was probably one of her siblings (she had about 6 still alive & living in Portarlington then) but I have a feeling it may have been her sister, MARY ANNE McGUINNESS. Can anyone help me with this, please? Colette
Collette, it sounds as if it could be the name of a house, but I could find no house in the area by that name on the OSI map. However, if you don't find a BARRY VIEW in Portarlington, perhaps it should be BARROW VIEW (as in the River Barrow, which flows around Portarlington on 3 sides). I have found that ship's passenger lists sometimes have misspellings for proposed addresses. See a post that mentions Barrow View as an address in Portarlingon in 1951 here: http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=2790&p=localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general . A search for Barrow View in Portarlington on the OSI map gives a map centered on it here: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,654458,712902,6,7. Select different map series from the box there to see the area in different time periods. Only the most recent map [Street Map (beta)] labels it Barrow View (and you have to go to the greatest enlargement), but it is possible it was called that even earlier. Perhaps someone familiar with the area can tell you.
