    3. I wonder if anyone could help me. My grandmother, Henrietta Kennedy, was born in Portarlington in 1880 and came to Perth, Australia in about 1906. A couple of years ago I had extensive searches done in Ireland for her birth certificate / baptismal cert./ First Communion registration ~ all to no avail.after months of searches. I need to find some proof that she was indeed an Irish citizen ~ My mother's birth cert. says Herrietta was born in Portarlington; I know she lived in Ireland until she was 26. Can anyone advise me what I might do to get proof of her Irish citizenship as I am hoping to apply for an Irish Passport but need proof that my grandmother was Irish. What should I do ? 2. Linda Sherlock
    3. Hi Again Michael! Thanks for the info ... it's a difficult name to research ... the two surving SCYTHES boys in Canada, Thomas and George, had many sons and nearly all of them had only daughters, so there are few with the Scythes name around these days ... there is a family in New Jersey USA that I am trying to find a connection to because they use the same spelling ... the families in Australia and New Zealand use SIDES/SYDES, but they did come from Laois. Thanks again, Linda Michael Brennan wrote: > Index to Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, 1848-1864 > > Sydes, Nathaniel County : Laois/Leix/Queens > Parish : Clonenagh and Clonagheen > Location : Mountrath > > No SIDES in Laois > > Found these in the Index to Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, 1848-1864 > > Sides, John County : Tipperary > Parish : Templemore > Location : Kiltillane/New Row > Sides, John County : Wexford > Parish : Taghmon > Location : Forest > Sides, John County : Wexford > Parish : Taghmon > Location : Town of Taghmon > Sides, Thomas County : Cavan > Parish : Annagh > Location : Corporation Lands > > You might like to know that the name SYTHES/SYDES is not listed in any other > county except Laois. > > No SIDES/SIDE?CIDES/CIDE are listed > > Gook Luck > > Don't forget to visit the new updated website of the BRENNAN/MORAN Family > History: http://www.brennanfamilyhistory.com > > Also researching the KELLY's of Co.Laois Ireland. > > Regards and good luck with your research > > Michael Brennan > Kent > England > Home: michael@janbren.freeserve.co.uk > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Linda Sherlock" <linda_sherlock@telus.net> > To: "Michael Brennan" <michael@janbren.freeserve.co.uk> > Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2001 12:18 AM > Subject: Re:SYTHES/SYDES/SIDES > > > Hi Michael! William John SCYTHES c.1807 (sometimes referred to as John Sythes) and his wife Jane MEREDITH c.1810 (father Thomas MEREDITH) emigrated in 1847 from "The Oaks", Ballyfin, near Mountmellick, Parish of Clonenagh and Cloneagheen, Queen's County /Laois/Leix to Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada with their seven children. 1. SIDES family
    2. Hello, I am a new member to the Laois list and a new researcher to boot :) I have many lines that have their origin's in Ireland but my brick wall is the SIDES family. My Great Great Grandmother Alice (Alicia) SIDES was born in Mountmellick Ireland ca. 1831. She went to Yorkshire England ? where she met a married John MORTIMER April 16, 1854. The marriage certificate lists her father as George SIDES cabinet maker. John and Alicia had four children Emiline, Samuel, Walter, Lavinia. This family later went to the USA ca.1886. I have done a bit of poking around and found the records for this area are from 1834 +. I went on the Mountmellick site (beautiful area) and did read the history of the area. I have no information for the mother of Alicia SIDES or other family members. No mother was listed on the marriage certificate of death certificate. Ring any bells with any list members? I have been told of a book that was written by Ronald Hempton Sides " A History of The Sides and some related families". Fewer than 100 copies were printed ( I have been told) and donated to State libraries in Australia. It has been said that Alicia was listed in that book........have not been able to track it down. I would be very grateful for any input :) Thanks! Regards, Arlene Kalstrom Florida GIUGLARD- Italy, MA JUGLER- Italy, MA, CT MORTIMER- Otley, Bradford England SIDES- Ireland, Bradford England LUMB- ? 3. I am looking for a couple of stray's: 1). William BRENNAN who should have appeared in the 1901 Census returns for Cooper Hill/Ballickmoyler, Co.Laois, Ireland. He would have been about 28 years of age at the time. 2). Christina BRENNAN should also have appeared on the census. I have no age for Christina. They did not appear with the rest of the family in Ballickmoyler, Co.Laois. Were they visiting someone nearby in Carlow or in Dublin maybe? Has anyone found these people in their census returns? I would love to hear from you if you have. I am also looking for the burial place and date of Christina Bolger (nee Brennan) who married Joe Bolger possibly in Dublin. It is reputed that she is buried in Glasnevin Crematorium, Dublin. But despite writing to this Crematorium and sending money for a search over six months ago they have failed to replied. 2. Roger Delaney
    3. My thanks to all who gave advice re registration of family history on LDS site. I have not yet had time to speak with FHS centre & so have not yet tried out the suggested action. Seems in general there are multiple incorrect notations for some persons but no listings I have found in my searches. With some 600 Delaney folk traced only one entry appears on IGI & that gives a record of a great grand fathers marriage but no entry for the gg mother ? If anyone else has ideas on this topic I would love to hear. Has anyone who has listed entries later found them on line ? Roger Delaney In Sunny Caves Beach NSW fax 0249713750 rocky@fastlink.com.au
