Hello to everyone Following is my "brickwall". James GARDINER was born Queens County c. 1818. He was tried, convicted and transported to Van Diemans Land and arrived 1840 with his younger brother Thomas. The only family I have are indicated on his Convict Certificate as a widowed mother, 2 sisters and 1 brother depending on his support. The Trial was reported in the LEINSTER EXPRESS and DUBLIN & MIDLAND GENERAL ADVERTISER on 25/7/1840. In the trial, an uncle James Gardiner and his wife ?Amy (hard to read) nee LARKIN . Amy had a sister Peggy LARKIN. James GARDINER (28) married Eliza Meally/Malley/Mealey (15) on 27 November 1848, St. Paul's Church, Stanley. They had 13 children and I have all the records. James GARDINER (now spelt Gardner) died 28 March 1891. Unfortunately, his Death Certiicate only gives place of birth as Queens County, Ireland. Re-posting this in the hope that someone new to the list might share this family. Thanking you Pamela Bell Melbourne, Australia
I am looking for any information relating to Francis McGrath, my great grandfather, and his family who I think resided for a period in Cahir, County Tipperary. Maybe from 1869-1870 to 1878 or longer. Francis McGrath may have been christened as Francis John McGrath. He was in the Royal Irish Constabulary in Cahir and later transferred to Mountrath and appears to have been stationed in Mountrath during the 1880s. Francis McGrath married a Mary O’Halloran and their son, John McGrath entered the Patrician Brothers Order at Mountrath in 1885. Two daughters entered the Convent and became teaching nuns. Another daughter may have married and become a Mrs McAuliffe and may have lived in Wicklow. She may have had sons who were in the New York Police Force. Their 4th daughter, Ellen Mary McGrath was my grandmother, who immigrated to New Zealand and married Cornelius Walsh in 1902 in Wellington. I would be very grateful to receive any piece of information at lvsjbs@bigpond.com

Hello Christina! Welcome aboard! I am researching the name Armstrong. William Armstrong married Mary Young in 1813 and left Ireland in the 1820's to settle in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am unable to find anything in Ireland about them but I know someone out there does and hopefully they will read your marvelous list and contact me! Good luck to all in their searches. S. Mason
I am searching for descendants of the children of James Finley and Margaret Brennan. Margaret was born in Clonbrock, Queens County, Ireland. James and Margaret were married in Doonane Parish, Queens County, Ireland, in 1828. They are known to have had four children: Timothy, born in 1831; and John, Patrick, and Michael. Timothy emigrated in 1856. He married Johanna Roach in Wisconsin. In papers filed for getting a Civil War pension, Timothy said he had three brothers; John, Patrick, and Michael. I know nothing else about the brothers. In Ireland the family name was Fennelly. Joyce
Hello Christina and list members, I am currently researching my Ryan and Lucas ancestors from Maryborough, Queens County and have re-posted the known details of them below. My gggg grandfather John Ryan, was born circa 1786. He married Nancy Lucas (date unknown at this stage) and they had four children. Betsy born c. 1815 Catherine born c 1820 (My ggg grandmother) Margaret born c. 1827 Mary born c. 1830. John Ryan was convicted of robbing a laundry in 1829. He was sentenced to seven years and transported to Sydney aboard the ship Larkins (2). In 1832. John Ryan wrote a letter to the Governor of NSW requesting that his family be permitted to join him in the Colony. This request was granted and John's wife Nancy and three of his children sailed from Cork in 1836 aboard the ship Thomas Harrison, arriving in Sydney in June of that year. I've learned that Nancy Ryan lived at Tay Lane, Maryborough, does anyone know if this lane still exists? The eldest child Betsy Ryan did not sail with her mother and sisters to Australia. I have absolutely no other information on her other than she was 17 in 1832 (when her father wrote his letter to the Governor of NSW). I would appreciate any advice on how to trace John Ryan and Nancy Lucas in Laois and also how I am able to find the fate of Betsy Ryan. Best wishes, Terri. Thanks so very much, Michael. Although the family left Ireland and arrived in New Brunswick, Canada by June 1826, the places you gave make excellent starting places to try to find them, in parish records, I presume. I have a friend who has a Kelly connection. We only know that he was born about 1825 in Ireland. Was in Missouri, USA in 1850 and moved to Oregon where he died. The commonality of the Kelly name and the Irish connection is a pretty hard wall to breach. Thanks again for you recent communication regarding the Lawlors and Grennans.

Hello! I am getting some very nice welcome messages with your research interests included. I want to thank you all for your warm welcome! I think many of you probably meant the research to go to the list too. Be sure to use your email option REPLY TO ALL so that the list will see your emails. Otherwise they only go to the person you replied to. As long as your email contains something which might be of interest to the whole list go ahead and include the list in your reply. HI Christina, Thanks for taking over. My gg grandfather, Michael Dooley, came from Ballinakill, Co, Laois, to Peru, Illinois in 1849. So far my efforts in tracing his voyage from Ireland and trip to IL. have been relatively fruitless. My spies tell me that there are Dooleys living in Ballinakill, or nearby, who may well be relatives. My attempts to contact them have not been successful - yet Along with the Dooley line I am searching for Tarpy/Tarpey (supposedly from Mayo), Daily (Galway), and Carlin (Meath), and would be delighted to hear from anyone who might have a connection with these names. Thanks, John M. Christina: Good Luck and much success on becoming the new listowner. The names for which I am searching in Laois is JUDITH LAWLOR (any spelling). The GRENNAN family emigrated to New Brunswick about 1826. When Judith died in 1888, at age 90, her county of birth was given as Queens.

Hello list! My name is Christina Hunt. I have been asked to take on the duties of listowner by Carol Hepburn. My own interest in County Laois is the Delaney family that lived there in the late 1600'. My Thomas Delaney went to Baltimore MD where he died in 1739. Quite a lot of the modern Delaneys/Dulaneys in America descend from Thomas. Please share your own research interests with me and the list so we can get to know each other! Feel free to get in touch if you have any problems receiving this list. Also, I would like to thank Carol Hepburn for her care of the list. She has done a fine job. Kind regards, Christina Ninah@ix.netcom.com http:www.rootsweb.com/~irllex
Hello THERE I am reposting my Quelch search. I have these Quelches below. I have found descendants in Montreal, Canada and New York, USA but have had no luck with those who stayed in Ireland. I have come to know in this hobby that one never knows. #2 son JOHN QUELCH and wife MARY LYNCH must have come to Canada in order that their children were born there. #2 son HENRY QUELCH and MARY PURCELL did not come to Canada while some of their children did #3 generation. Folks, I'll be gone for the month of September and, to prevent mailbox overload before my return, I'm unsubbing - in a couple of days - from all of my Irish county lists (33 of them), plus a few more, for the duration. If anyone wants to reach me personally, my own e-mail mailbox will always be open......but you won't get a reply until October.
