It's in Tipperary, but only about three miles from the Laois border, and their mail may have been delivered through the Roscrea postoffice. Burial could have been in Roscrea, too. I don't see anything in the Laois townland listings under "R" that would come close. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    1. [IRL-LAOIS] Bergin family
    2. One of my wife's lines (the Bergins) came from Aghaboe. Her ancestor, Mary Bergin, was born in Ballycuddahy in 1867, left in the 1880's (?) and settled in Waterbury, CT. Her parents wer Denis and Catherine (Dowling / Doolan) Bergin. I don't know if they came here with her. Two of Mary's sisters (Catherine and Ellen) came to Waterbury with her, but her brother, Denis, stayed behind and died Jan. 1936 in Aghaboe. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

    3. I am seeking information on Jeremiah WALL born about 1823 in Arles, Queens County. His father's name was George WALL (farmer) and his mother's name was Bridget DWYER. Jeremiah emigrated to Australia. His death certificate states he lived in Melbourne Victoria for 5 years NSW for 40 years so he would have arrived in Australia about 1855. Jeremiah married Anne Woodrow (born Swanage, Dorset, England in 1833). At the time of his marriage his occupation was Gold digger. They had 10 children - George Mary John Anne Eliza Jerome Joseph William Edmund and Margaret who were all still living at the time of his death on 4/2/1900. He lived in the North Sydney area, owned a shop there and is buried in the Gore Hill Catholic Cemetery. Any connections?

    3. > My husbands great grandfather Patrick DOWLING was born in queens county Ireland re: aghaboe parrish records. He came here in 1851, at the age of 14, he was a carpenter and labourer, and rail road worker. He bought land in quincy illinois, and named this land BEL- ECHO or BELL ECHO. can anyone on the list possibly speculate what this might mean? > I actaully had forgotten this bit of informtion from a family member UNTIL I saw this entry in obituary daily times, Echo A - L'echo Abitibien - Lasarre QC - danf > then I remembered it... bel echo, I wonder what that means. a certain family member said she remembered from her grandmother that patrick was from tipperary, but his death cert. said queens, but she is adamant that he was from tipperary. So thought I might throw this out and maybe some one knows what Bel echo stands for. > Thank you for any information. d dowling mizzou@mcmsys.com > > **

    3. Genealogy.com - World Family Tree Special OfferQuick Research Tips from Genealogy.com: Using the Social Security Death Index February, 2002 Searching the Social Security Death Index is an important step in locating 20th century American family history information. With the Social Security Death Index, you can get details on an individual's birth date, death date, Social Security number, state/county code of residence, last residence zip code, and the zip code where the death benefit lump sum payment was sent. In addition, with a name, the Social Security number that you get from the Social Security Death Index, and $27, you can obtain a copy of the individual's original application for a Social Security card. This often contains much information of genealogical interest.
