    1. [LAOIS] Encumbered estates - Peter Gale
    2. Christina Hunt
    3. Hi there, I have added an Encumbered Estate to the County Laois (IGP) website. The estate belonged to Peter GALE Esq. and encompassed Ashfield, Gale and Raheen Div. Encumbered estates were those which were sold due to debt. The tenants are listed. It was common to have a lease of "lives" which meant as long as the named people were alive the lease was in effect. It could be difficult to know when people had died so sometimes well known figures were named since their deaths were well known. The eldest children of the Queen were being named in many of these leases. Not of genealogical use but that was why it was done. I have two more estate maps to add but it's late so I will do them tomorrow. If this area is of interest the url is: www.rootsweb.com/~irllex Regards, Christina North Carolina, USA

Patrick Dunn(e) was born approx. 1861 in Ireland. His father was James Dunne and his mother was a Brennan. He married a Bridget Kelly around 1879 in Ireland. Her father was Richard Kelly and her mother was Mary Cullen. They had a child named Mary before they left for England about 1880. They had another child, named Bridget in England. Patrick left England and came to Dock St., in Philadelphia, Pa. on board the steamship 'Lord Clive' in May of 1882. Another child was born in England, named Rose. Bridget and the rest of the family came over on board the ' SS Pennsylvania' on May 1883. They also came over with a Margaret Dunn. The name Dunne was used when they boared the steamship in England but was changed to Dunn when they departed in Philadelphia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hi Everyone Here is the solution to the problem with the CD Rom drive if you are running WindowsXP and FTM Archive CD's. > > I am sending you the instructions that FTM sent me . I couldn't read any of my Family Tree Archive CD's. It worked for me - hopefully it will work for you. Be sure to follow all the instructions. I forgot to remove the semi-colon and it didn't work until I removed it. > > Diantha > > Modify Family Tree Maker's Configuration File > Sometimes Family Tree Maker cannot identify the CD-ROM drive, despite the fact that its working and available to Windows. This usually happens when you have more than one CD-ROM drive installed on your computer. Family Tree Maker may not know which drive letter corresponds to your CD-ROM drive. In this case, you can tell Family Tree Maker where to look by editing its configuration file. > Caution: Do NOT make any changes to Family Tree Maker's configuration file, besides what's mentioned in the instructions below. You could render portions of the program unusable. > > To specify the drive Family Tree Maker should use: > 1.. Open Family Tree Maker. > > 2.. From the Help menu, select System Information. > Family Tree Maker displays the System Information dialog box. > > 3.. Click the Run: drop-down list, and select FTW.INI. > Family Tree Maker opens its configuration file in Windows Notepad and displays it on screen. > 4.. Under the [Options] section, you'll find a line that looks like this: > ;FamFinderCD=X:\ > > 5.. Remove the semicolon and change the X to the drive letter that corresponds to your CD-ROM drive. The X in FamFinderCD=X:\ corresponds to the CD-ROM drive letter. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is drive D, you would modify the line so that it looks like this: > FamFinderCD=D:\ > > Note: Don't forget to remove the semicolon. If a semicolon precedes the line, Family Tree Maker will ignore your changes. > > > 6.. From Notepad's File menu, select Save. > > 7.. 3. Michael - I think you can read your CDs direct from FTM. I used to have a copy loaded just because it reads the CDs better than does FAV. I get an error message at least half the time I start FAV and have to reboot just so I can use a CD. I no longer have a copy of FTM so I am forced to use the viewer.
