My gg grandmother Bridget MULHALL was a cousin to the MUNHALL family of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; descendants of that family tell me they came from Abbeyleix, though Bridget appears to have been living in another county at the time of her emigration. Bridget arrived in the US around 1849 - 1850. She was living in Boston / Cambridge, MA in 1854 when she married Michael "CONNER" in Feb. of that year; they lived briefly in the Boston area and in Lake County, Illinois, probably in Libertyville, before settling in Minnesota about 1856. Michael, whose name was O'Connor in Ireland and again later in the US, when he and Bridget settled in Fillmore County, Minnesota, arrived in the US on September 25, perhaps in the year 1853 (according to a Fillmore County history written in 1888, some twenty + years before his death). Michael lived in England, we think most likely in Birmingham as Michael CONNER in the 1851 census. "The landlord sent him to school in England," according to the family history -- from there he came to the US. Bridget supposedly joined a sister in Boston shortly after her emigration. This most likely would have been a half-sister, Cathrine DOOLING. Cathrine's son was supposed to have been a Father Dooling, described in family histories written later as "head of Catholic Charities in Chicago" in 1883-1888 at least. We have a picture of Cathrine taken in Chicago during this time period. Bridget also was the sister or half sister of Ann MULHALL / MUNHALL LAWLOR of Braddock, Pennsylvania. She came to the US later and was years younger than Bridget. Later, Bridget's mother came to the US and lived with Ann in Braddock, near Pittsburgh, in her old age. Father DOOLING was associated with an orphanage in Chicago from which the O'CONNORs adopted some children, including Henry MCDERMOTT (in 1883), James TRIPP, Sarah KAISER, and Daniel CAHILL ("the only Catholic among them") (all three about 1888)-- Daniel Cahill was killed at about age 16 while trying to break a horse, but the others grew to adulthood and settled in the area of Austin - Spring Valley, Minnesota. Bridget and Michael have thousands of descendants in the U.S. and Chile. I would apprecate any information on the O'Connor family of Abbeyleix and on the Mulhall / Munhall or associated families. Thank you. Penny Ford Great granddaughter of Frances Bridgtet O'CONNOR TRIGGS

Interested in anyone with Laois connections to the above surnames. My great great grandfather, James Walsh, born 1827 in Aghaboe parish, married Anne Mortimer, born 1845 Camross parish. They emigrated in the early 1860's (not sure if together or seperately) and lived in Troy, NY. James had siblings Martin, Frances and Mary, who also lived in Troy and never married. Anne had siblings Patrick, Margaret, Matthew and John. John appears to have remained in Ireland, while Pat, Matt and Maggie all lived in Troy at various times. Patrick married a Mary Walsh, and Margaret married someone named Daley. Mathew went west and died at a young age from an iron works accident. James Walsh was the son of James Walsh and Judy Fitzpatrick; Anne Mortimer was the daughter of Michael Mortimer and Catherine Phalen. Lisa Dougherty
