Author: kabeja61 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/2597.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Jack, thanks for your replies. Indeed Patrick is a bit of a mystery who i don't seem to be able to find anywhere in Laois ! But he consistently put his place of birth as Queens County on his English census returns. Do you have a year when the Mary Kenny you mention was renting the land in Mountmellick ? Kenny was her maiden name and i believe she got married to her first husband in Queens County where she states in the English censuses she was from. There is a lot of confusion over what her surname was after her first marriage but it may well be Barron or Barran. In the English 1871 census there is a lodger called Pat Kenney from Ireland, maybe Marys brother ? In this census she is listed as a widow and she marrys Patrick in the latter part of 1871. Mountmellick is interesting as there are other snippets of information i have seen which point to there, but at the moment it's all conjecture as i have no paper records for any of this family before they went to England. I am very pleased to report I can now confirm my Dennis Reddin was born in Co Laois c. 1793 - to William Reddin and Mary Mara/O'Meara. Had suspected it for some time but only recently found good obituary which served as 3rd record placing him there rather than family tradition of Co Tipp [tho I suspect we are related to at least some of the Reddins there as well]. Some of you have been kind enough to send some Reddin records you've come across and I am very grateful for them. I am wondering tho if anyone knows when Co Laois will be joining the list of the counties whose church records have been put online through the IFHF? I've found even their indexes for other counties to be a great help... Thx and cheers, Aggi-Rose ========IRL-LAOIS Mailing List======== Leix/Laois websites: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/Leix/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllex/index.htm Add your Leix/Laois surname to the Surname Registry. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [LAOIS] ST. KIERAN CHURCH
    2. All, I thought all of you who had family on this list who might have lived in the "Irish Valley" in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania might find this not from a friend from the local AOH interesting. Top of the Day! 2 items per VP Tom Dempsey: As you know St. Kieran's Church will close on July 15. Permission has been granted to have the festival Mass in the church as per schedule on Sunday, July 27th, at least for this year. March at 11:30 followed by Mass at 12 Noon. There is a web page for members of the AOH and LAOH in Schuylkill and Carbon counties. It is open to members of any of the divisions in the two counties. Messages can be posted concerning fundraisers, activities, events, parades or anything of general interest to our members. To access the page just click on the following link. You can join the group by clicking the "Join this Group" button and following the instructions: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/schcaraohlaoh Thanks Tom. On a side note, St Kieran's usually has a fine breakfast the morning of the parade. Again, the festival is July 25, 26 & 27. With the mass and parade on the 27th. Might want to bring a camera to take a few pictures of the whole St Kieran's Parish scene on the hill. Personally, I think it is the perfect setup for a parish. The stations of the cross are on the left side of the road as you head to the church, with the cemetery on the right. The church, founded by St John Neuman, is at the end of the road. A grotto to Our Lady is on the left side. A towering siren behind the church that was no doubt used for signalling diasters such as mine cave ins and fires. To the right of the church 3 more buildings. The rectory, convent and school. Our Irish ancestors did a "foine" job in establishing St Kieran's parish. I imagine the first stop for many of our Irish ancestors came via "The Irish Valley In Heckschersville". It is sad to see the closing of St Kieran's church. For those out of the area, Allentown Diocese is closing 32 parishes Co Schuylkill, with more to come next June. **************Gas prices getting you down? Author: kabeja61 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general/2597.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Further to the above original posting for information on O'Neils:O'Neills we have come up with some new information regarding Patrick and Mary. It appears that Patrick and Mary actually got married in Durham, England in 1871. Marys maiden name was Kenny and she was from Queens County. This was Marys second marriage. We think her first married name was Barney although on various documents it is also spelt as Barren, Barron, Barran, Barnen or Barney !! This marriage took place in Ireland probally in Queens County. We haven't found a first name for this husband or a date of marriage. From this marriage she had three children who were Mary Barnen 1865, James Barnen 1867 and Edward Barnen 1869. Mary and James were born in Queens County while Edward was born in Quebec, County Durham, England. The rest of the O'Neill children were the same as listed in my original post. Any information anyone could provide about any of the above would be greatly appreciated especially Mary Kenny. Many thanks, Kabeja. I have visited Jim at The Swan, Finbar from Dublin. We know we are linked to Andrew from Kylenebehy/Wolfhill, Fr. Peter (recently deceased here in Toronto) and the Brennan Family married in from Barrowhouse (my wife's family, too). Any information would be most welcomed. 1. [LAOIS] 1864 Ireland Birth Index update plus Surname Registries update
    2. Pat Connors
    3. The Index is now online for surnames beginning with A, B, C, D, E, and F. We are up to L in our transcriptions and when I get some more time, I hope to get more letters online. If you submitted a surname to the Surname Registry in June and it is not online, it is because it is floating around in cyberspace. We moved to a new server and suddenly our form wasn't working. But now all is well and it is fixed. So I apologize if yours is lost. Please resubmit another one and we will include it in our next update. Also, I had a note from someone who is trying to contact a person who listed a surname because they may be related. If your email changed, submit a new form and put 'change' in the field where you want the change. You can find links to both the Surname Registries and the 1864 Ireland Birth Index at: http://www.irelandgenweb.com/ -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
