The surname is mainly in Offlay and Laois. In Laois the name is spelt as DEVOY but is more often than not refered to as DEEVEY. Why I have no idea it's one of those Irish things. My wife is the DEVOY in our family and her people come from Stradbally in Laois. On her Mother's side, Maloney, one of my wife's cousin's married a McEVOY. I have a few names of the children of this marriage but they are too late to tie into your line. However if you would like to contact me off line my address is: [email protected] cheers Lapunpella. I have searched so many names and lines over the past 5 years it is hard to keep all straight. My g-g grandfather was Denis Devoy who was married to Mary or Marie McEvoy. Denis came to US by way of Quebec about 1822. I can put the McEvoys and Denis together in central NY. I know they had at least 13 children, 1st odf which was early as late 1820s. I also have a hint Denis came from Tullamore, county Offlay, Ireland. I know nothing of Mary except she was daughter of Michael McEvoy and had come to Utica NY, from Queens County Ireland, when she was 4. That means she came before Denis. If you are still looking and can add any info to what I have I would be forever greatful. My e-mail address is [email protected] Would love to chat with you. 2. Jane Lyons
    3. Ian, I've just checked the two URL's and they are different. Raheen baptisms 1819 http://www.laoisgenealogy.com/parishrecords/raheen1819.htm Stradbally baptisms 1820 http://www.laoisgenealogy.com/parishrecords/stradballyb1820.htm Mark Bacon, Mary Beahon and Cath beahon are the first three names in the Raheen index ; Patrick Beahan, John Beates and Mary Bergin? are the first three in the Stradbally index. Where I have mad a mistake though is in the links for the letters that the surname begin with! I didn't change that from one page to the next. Stradbally has links for B : C: D : and F-K where it should be B: C; D; E-J and then it probably runs wrong for the rest of the letters. I'll correct that today and re-load. Sorry about that! Thanks for pointing this out to me. Thank you for getting in touch. I myself have no news as I don't know where to start looking apart from begging messages on boards, that's how thank god I found you. It sounds like fun meeting with your cousins and doing research and sharing information. It must be difficult sifting through wills and trying to decifer the handwriting. I've had a really busy time at work and last night was in bed by 9.30, absolutely bushed. I am very grateful to you for searching my ancestors for me. If I knew where to start looking ie websites then I can assist (hopefully). Many sites you have to pay to view which I can understand but there must be some freebies out there somewhere. The trouble is a lot of the sites you can only search England and Wales. Have a great weekend if I don't hear from you before and if not hope to hear from you sometime next week. When I send this I'm going to bed, so don't wait up! A police officer called John Herlihy indexed the RIC General Register so all I had to do was look up the name(s) alphabetically, The name gives the number, then an introductory chapter collates the number with a date range and microfilm references. You need to scroll through the microfilm - beautifully written but not always beautifully photographed - and there's a whole range of info - see earlier responses. All I've done so far is follow one name through the process. Sorry. We can connect direct if we choose, but that leaves Liam and others out of the loop, and they may be interested in the outcome, or want to contribute further. You decide.
