Great great grandfather Thomas Fallon born approx 1840 in co Laois (possibly Clonaslee) to Bridget DUNNE and Patrick Fallon. Bridget Dunne was born in co Laois approx 1820, daughter of Thomas DUNNE. Bridget's husband Patrick Fallon died young and Bridget remarried to James May in Chesterfield Derbyshire, England in 1860. Bridget Dunne and Patrick Fallon had at least one other child - Michael Fallon, also born around 1840 and married Margaret Quinn in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England in 1867. All were living in Whittington Derbyshire in 1870's and early 1880's. Per search of Griffith's primary valuation - there were only 3 "Fallon" entries - one of which was in Mountmellick (where there were also Dunnes). Does anyone have access to the TITHE APPLOTMENT records for Clonaslee or Mountmellick - wondering if any FALLON's are listed?? Thank you. My mother was told that they came from Mount Mellick in Ireland. They came to England somewhere around the 1860's and lived in Bradford, West Yorkshire. There is at least one person on this site who has relatives that match, but I have not received a reply to my messages. Probably because they've ended up in the Spam folder! If you are related or have any information, please get in touch as my family is relatively small and so it would mean alot to me. On Saturday my wife and I attended the 40th Carlow Association (London) Annual Dinner dance which was held in The Irish Centre, London. The event was a big success with lots of money being raised for various causes. During the night I had the privilege of been introduced and talking to one of Irelands newest authors namely Bridget Whelan. The following is a quote from her new book "A Good Confession" flyer: "In Bridget Whelan's captivating debut novel A Good Confession, Cathleen is a young widow struggling to bring up her family in 1960s London when she falls in love with a priest. And not just any priest, but Father Jerry, her dead husband's cousin. She hopes confession will ease her troubled mind, not realising that she is confessing to the man she loves, and the man who loves her. When tragedy forces Cathleen back to Ireland, they both have to face the consequences of their love affair and make the hardest decision of all.
