Do you think that your Harry Carter was brother to Jane & David. As I mentioned, their cousin was Willie Matthews, from Geashill and his wife was called Ciss Burrell. They farmed at Glebe East, on the outskirts of Geashill. The land is now farmed by Lambert Hendy and his family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The fisrt time I can find any record of the Matthews line is about 1780 - Henry Matthews, Maryborough. I think the headstone for William and Jane is in the C of I graveyard in Portlaoise. The main problem is the erosion of the headstones. I could hardly read my family headstone on my last visit, where as 3 years ago it was clear. The council has gone to a great deal of effort to map out the graveyard and name those in it and to display the chart, for those who visit. There must be an original document somewhere. William's wife is Mary Deegan. Deegan's are related to my Butler, O'Toole and Heffernan lines of Laois, Tipperary and Kilkenny. Brother C. Anthony has sister Agnes who was a WAC, a brother Thomas an MD and an uncle Thomas a longshoreman. Anything sound familiar? I have the images for William's passenger list if interested. My family were C of I, as were many in the Laois, Offaly counties. I am trying to get a copy of the all the graves of St.Mary's, C of I, Geashill. I have asked the Family History society in Tullamore, the Local Council, the vicar, all to no avail. The grave planner was paid for by a grant, and is situated ourtside the fron doors of the Church, yet no one knows where you can obtain a copy. I do know there were some Carters in this churchyard.
