The fisrt time I can find any record of the Matthews line is about 1780 - Henry Matthews, Maryborough. I think the headstone for William and Jane is in the C of I graveyard in Portlaoise. The main problem is the erosion of the headstones. I could hardly read my family headstone on my last visit, where as 3 years ago it was clear. The council has gone to a great deal of effort to map out the graveyard and name those in it and to display the chart, for those who visit. There must be an original document somewhere. I have asked the Family History society in Tullamore, the Local Council, the vicar, all to no avail. The grave planner was paid for by a grant, and is situated ourtside the fron doors of the Church, yet no one knows where you can obtain a copy. I do know there were some Carters in this churchyard.
