Lawrence DANIEL is said to have come to the U.S. from Kilkenny, Ireland. He was born about 1812 - 1817. According to family tradition his first wife was Mary BURNS (BYRNES) who may have been from Scotland. They had two children born in Ireland: Ellen was born in September 1842 (1860 U.S. census records) or on September 8, 1844 (death certificate) and Patrick was born on March 16, 1846 (death certificate). The family supposedly left Ireland for the U.S. in 1847 - 1850. According to the tradition of Ellen's descendants, Mary BURNS died on the voyage to the U.S. and was buried at sea; Lawrence sent back to Ireland for a new wife. He married Johanna MAHER on 13 April 1850 at what is now St. Peter's - St. Paul's - Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. It has been suggested that Lawrence may have been a member of a group of the BRENNAN family near Castlecomer that uses DANIEL as a nickname. Another person found that in their Kilkenny family, DANIEL was the Anglo name forced upon those of the O'DONNELL Clan (Catholics) in the early 1800s. I will appreciate any leads or suggestions.
