    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Button, Harrison, Kelley, Lambert, McGann, Murphy, Pendergast Toohill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WWC.2ACI/3283.1 Message Board Post: For years I've been looking for where my Pendergast ancestors came from in Ireland. My g-grandfather James was born in Ireland, probably around 1819, I do not know where. But I do know that his wife, Margaret Kelley, was born in Kilkenny; her parents were John Kelley and Anna Hines--no town so far. I still don't know whether James and Margaret were married there or here. NY State was where they settled, Livingston County, first sighted in the 1860 federal census. At that time James was about 41 and Margaret about 30-35. In a previous posting on this board, under a query about a Ryan family, I found this as part of a conversation:"do you have any idea what town in Kilkenny? My ancestors are from the parish of Danesfort, town of Annamult,. . . My names are Pendergast/Prendergast, Maher, and Fannan.. . ." There's more. The poster was Maryann <[email protected]> As you can see, I'm clutching at straws to make a connection here. But I have had luck piecing together this sort of thing with other ancestral lines. One of these days we Pendergasts will find our connections. Carol in Florida

    3. Hi Carol, I have book "Irish Land Owners in 1876" which lists anyone owning 1 acre or more of land in that year by county. I know this time frame is much later than your inquiry, but sometimes it is helpful in locating or giving hints where surnames congregated. In Kilkenny County there are no Pendergast's or Kelley's listed, which only means either they had left by 1876, or they didn't own land. I also checked Tipperary County because of it's proximity to Kilkenny County and the overlap in some cases of towns/villages. There are no "Pendergast's" listed but there are several "Prendergast" land owners. Since spelling changes aren't uncommon in genealogy, I thought I would list those people for you. Tipperary County - value is L for pounds and S for shillings: Prendergast, Archer, Landoff Lodge, Thurles, owned 343 acres, value 124 L 10 s Prendergast, James, The Castle, Ardfinnan, 15 acres, 21 L 0 s Prendergast, Jane Mary, Clonmel, 847 acres, 446 L 15 s Prendergast, Robert K., Netley, 230 acres, 302 L 5 s Prendergast, Rev. Thomas, Clonmel, 6 acres, 19 L 15 s Good luck with your search.
