Hello Fred and all, Here is a great site which gives the information, about what and when records were kept in Kilkenny, and much more: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eirlkik/index.htm Good Luck, Terry Hurley My ancestor, Lawrence DANIEL, was a Roman Catholic who is said to have come from County Kilkenny to the U.S. He did not appear in Griffiths Valuation of 1849-1850, but he did appear in the 1850 census of Brooklyn, New York. I have had little luck in tracing him. I searched Griffiths Valuation and found 25 men with the Surname DANIEL. 17 of them were in the Civil Parish of Fiddown so this appears to be the most promising area in which to search. The Roman Catholic Parishes in Fiddown were Owning and Templeorum, but it appears that these records are incomplete for much of the 1840s. Does anyone on the list know for sure? Were civil parish records of births, marriages and deaths kept?
