Can anyone please help me with this search for my GGrandfather. The information I have been able to find is very limited and I have come to a brick wall. John MURPHY, Born c1812, Kilkenny, Parish unknown. Died 1888, Cooma NSW Australia. Information gained from the Church he married in was that his father was James and his mother was Mary WALSH(WELSH) His death certificate states he was from Kilkenny, and that he had been in the Colony for 49 years. This would make his arrival around 1833, The problem is there are so many John Murphy's it is impossible to find the right one. He may have been a convict. I would appreciate any help I could get. Susie, My maths make his arrival 1839 (1888 minus 49 equals 1839)and there was only one John Murphy arrived that year. Arrived on the ¨Westminster¨ 1839 NSW archive reference Reel 2143A RecordItem 4/4813 Page 14 of 1839 to 1851 Port Phillip arrivals. This may be your John Murphy. Rick
