Griffith's instruction manual lists the following: House - describes all buildings used permanently as dwellings, and all public buildings such as houses of worship, courthouses and schools etc. Office - includes factories, mills, shops and farmbuildings such as stable, turf shed, cow barn, corn shed, piggery. Garden- a small plot of land used to raise food, in either rural or urban setting. Not a flower bed. The Census instructions for 1911 form B2 describes which "out-offices" to be listed- those buildings intended for domestic or agricultural purposes, excluding "sanitary accommodation", conservatories, greenhouses, summerhouses. We would probably use the term "out-houses" rather than "out-offices". Cathy
