Probably the best resource for genealogy study for County Kilkenny is Dennis Walsh's website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlkik/index.htm You will find that Kells is in the Kells Civil Parish. From there you can see what religious records are available. Another site for religious records are at: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/kilkennyrc.htm I believe Kells is in Danesfort RC Parish and if you click on the parish, you will find the records start early 1800s thru to 1900 with gaps. Also thru 1860s on Family History Library film. From those records, you may be able to find siblings, parents etc. The Griffiths Valuation which list all the heads of households in 1849-50 for County Kilkenny, will show you who still lived in the area who maybe related to you. You can find an index for it at: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/kilkenny/kells.htm You will find there were many Carrolls in the area and a Patrick Mahoney. Given that most of Ireland's censuses before 1901 were destroyed, it is hard to do research there but on Dennis's website, he lists all the census substitutes for the county and you may be able to get more information on your family by research many of them. Most have been filmed by FHL. > This is my first posting to the List and I am trying to find information > on Michal Carroll, born abt 1797 at Kells, and his wife Ellen Mahoney born > abt 1804 , who came to Sydney in 1841 on the Bounty ship "Forth" from > Plymouth. With them were their 8 children: > -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
