Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg//WWC.2ACI/3300.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello Marie, Thanks for replying. Here's what I know: My great great grandfather was Patrick Welsh (sometimes spelled Walsh) from somewhere in Kilkenny. He married Anastasia Lennigan (sp?) and they emigrated with a son Joseph, to Howe Island, Ontario Canada sometime between 1841 and 1845. They were both Roman Catholic. I haven't been able to determine where in Kilkenny they lived, or who their parents were, or what ship they emigrated on. Hope you can help. :)

He was married to Mary Maria Garrett on 23 July 1855 at St James Church Dublin. I have fragmented info about him and some interesting stories handed down - that I have not been able to confirm as true. In addition, I do have family history on the Bonynges and associated families that may be able to assist you in your search. I would be interested in any facts you have and your connection to SWB.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WWC.2ACI/481.780.1 Message Board Post: Hi Stephen, Maybe I can help. I am researching Bowes (a Bowe variant) for my family. We are also from Kilkenny, near Ballyragget. In my research I've learned that Bowes/Bowe is not a very common name in Ireland, and most were located in Kilkenny and adjacent counties. There is an old story said to describe the Gaelic origins of our surname(s). You can read it at http://www.genealogyvault.net/irishbowes/history.php (you can also look at other Bowes/Bowe related stuff there). After learning this old story I set up a Bowes genetic geneology project to research our various lines by DNA. You can join that project at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/irishbowes . Interestingly, after my father joined, we learned that his genetic markers match the Vikings, not the Gaels, so my particular line does not confirm the story about Irish Bowes with Gaelic ties to the Cronin sept. Your Bowe line may or may not match my Bowes line genetically. If it does, you too would have Viking rather than Gaelic ! "deep ancestry." If it does not, then we could work to interpret the results. The more Bowes/Bowe who join my project over time the more we can learn. Well that's it for now! Keep me posted!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WWC.2ACI/3745.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Look for Parick's civil and church marriage and death records to find his parents names and where he was born in Ireland. Also his tombstone, cemetery record, will and US naturalisation record. He may not have been born in the same place his parents were. If you're unsure of what Michael's relationship is to Patrick, if any, then you need to research his US records also to find any connection as Patrick's father.

His and his children's US civil and church records would be the places to find his parents names and birthplace in Ireland.

Kilkenny. There are really five separate individuals who appear in Griffith's. This should narrow it down and you can check to see what church records are available for these areas.
