    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WWC.2ACI/2463.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Eileen, I have an Ally Saunders who maried a John Ryan 14 May 1845 in the Catholic Parish of Callan. Their residence was listed as Ballywalter. I also have a Mary Saunders who married a John Ryan bef 1833. I have not researched the Ryan origins. In your initial post you stated one of your baptismal records showed a townland of Bohenvarga in Callan Parish. The townland is probably Boherawarraga, Civil Parish of Coolaghmore, Barony of Kells, Province of Leinster, County Kilkenny. The Civil Parish of Coolaghmore is in the Catholic Parish of Callan. Civil Resistration didn't begin until 1864 in Ireland. To do additional research on your family you will have to rely on Church records. The Parochial Registers of Callan cover the period of 1821-1881. You can order and review these records at your local Family History Center. The Family History Library microfiche number is 926189. Mike

    2. Nancy Thomas
    3. To Donna Griffin: I don't know if this will amount to anything, but I have several Waters ancestors buried with an Elizabeth Cullen who died in Chicago June 5, 1890, and is buried at Calvary Cemetery. William Cullen bought three graves on that day. However, Anne Murphy Waters, who was born in Kilkenny in 1826, was buried in this same plot on April 10, 1880. Two other Waters were buried there in 1883. I have been trying to identify who these Cullens are and why my ancestors were buried there before William Cullen purchased 3 graves (five bodies actually buried there). There was also a James Cook (or Cooke) buried there on April 3, 1880. I don't know who he is either. Do you have a William or Elizabeth Cullen, or a James Cook in your Kilkenny ancestors? Nancy Thomas

    1. [KILKENNY] Brennan and Cullen families
    2. Donna and Mike Griffin
    3. In 1850 James Cullen and Margaret Brennan Cullen arrived in the US with their 5 mo old daughter Margaret. James Cullen stated on his citizenship papers that he is from Kilkenny. I know that Margaret Brennan is the daughter of Thomas Brennan and Ellen Comerford per her death record. SO...I looked for James Cullen and Thomas Brennan on the Griffith's valuation.... There are 49 (yes 49) Thomas Brennans in Kilkenny and 12 James Cullens. Then I got the bright idea to see if any of these folks lived near each other....thinking that since James and Margaret were married and had a child before leaving Ireland, maybe they lived in the same area..... AND, I found a Thomas Brennan in Ballilogue in the parish of Rower and 4 of the James Cullens (including one Jr.) in various towns in that parish... I thought this might give me a clue of where to look for marriage and birth records but have not yet found any available on the internet. Anyone know where I might find any records for this parish....other than thru the Rothe Center in Kilkenny (who I have already contacted)???? Or better yet....anyone know any of these folks, or have another suggestion on sorting this out. Will be in Kilkenny in November and would love to see where they were from... Thanks for any suggestions.... Donna Griffin

    1. Re: [KILKENNY] DANIEL family in Fiddown Civil Parish
    2. Hello Fred and all, Here is a great site which gives the information, about what and when records were kept in Kilkenny, and much more: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eirlkik/index.htm Good Luck, Terry Hurley My ancestor, Lawrence DANIEL, was a Roman Catholic who is said to have come from County Kilkenny to the U.S. He did not appear in Griffiths Valuation of 1849-1850, but he did appear in the 1850 census of Brooklyn, New York.    I have had little luck in tracing him.  I searched Griffiths Valuation and found 25 men with the Surname DANIEL.  17 of them were in the Civil Parish of Fiddown so this appears to be the most promising area in which to search.  The Roman Catholic Parishes in Fiddown were Owning and Templeorum, but it appears that these records are incomplete for much of the 1840s.  Does anyone on the list know for sure?  Were civil parish records of births, marriages and deaths kept?
