Does anyone have any information on an Eleanor "Ellen" Cotterell born about 1804 who was related to the Dowling and Delaney families and married Timothy Young? Eleanor Cotterell was possibly from Lates, Kilkenny county and married my g-g-grandfather who resided in Liss-Tullaroan area of Kilkenny. Any information relating to any of these family lines would be most appreciated. I am also trying to locate a Wendy Keeler who posted the marriage information in her GEDCOM file in 2003 but her email address is no longer valid. If Wendy is possibly a member of the list, please contact me at marnold@princeton.edu as I would like to know how and where you obtained the marriage information for Eleanor Cotterell and Timothy Young. Thanks everyone. Maryann

Since you know the county but not the area, you might check with the Kilkenny Archaeological Society who has all the records index and shoul be able to find your family if the records are available. You can get a good idea about availability of RC records for County Kilkenny here: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/kilkennyrc.htm Click on the various parishes and you will find the dates of surviving records, plus whether they have been filmed by the Family History Library. Hello Listers, I am very new to Irish family history research and hoping some one can help point me in the direction on where to research. Nicholas Gorman (O'Gorman) b abt 1816, his wife Catherine (McInery?) b abt 1819, children Patrick b abt 1843, Bridget b abt 1850 and Jane b abt 1853 arrived in South Aust, Australia in 1854 on board the "Trafalgar". Both Nicholas and Bridget were both born in Kilkenny. I am looking for the births for this family and marriage of the couple and any other information which might help. Have just added a new file to the Kilkenny section of the IGP Archives. Under Census Substitutes: *Oaths of Allegiance 1775 - Parliament passed a law that Catholics sign an Oath of Allegiance. Unlike other loyalty oaths, this one seems (according to the little I found online) not to have required Catholics to renounce the Pope. One purpose was to allow Catholics to join the military due to an increased need for soldiers.) If you are researching in this time frame, you might find this interesting. The url is http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlarchive/ Click on Kilkenny and then the Census Substitutes. Cheers, Christina We welcome contributions! Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives

In a week I will be heading for England. I want to make a short visit to Kilkenny. My GGF was from there and I wish to become a little acquainted with the area. I know he resided on Patrick Street in the city; and there is some evidence his extended family was in the Dungarvan and Tullaherin area. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have for places to look for further information to begin the process of confirming his origin. I have put the following tithes online and the county's section: County Kilkenny: Stonecarty Civil Parish, two enumations, 1825, 1840 County Leix/Laois/Queens: Skirk Civil Parish 1829, Sleaty Civil Parish 1829, Straboe Civil Parish 1825 -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
I entered only Ireland as country of birth, and Castlecomer as town of birth, on the Ancestry WW2 freebie, no surname or other info, and got 17 hits including Brennan, Conville, Dormer, Foley, etc. Presumably this would work for other Irish townlands, as long as the registrant included a town. The freebie is good until D-Day. Jack Langton ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

My Mothers forefathers left Coolcullen in May of 1819 and immigrated to Canada. Now I have been reading a lot about the area of Coolcullen and find that it was a more recent settlement. and possibly our ancestors came to the area in their last life time. So I'm trying to find were they came from. I've been suspicious that they likely came from Wexford. But really don't know. The oldest one I know that lived there was George Kerfoot my G.G.G.G. Grandfather. He emigrated to Canada and died the first year near Ottawa. Have not been able to find his grave sight. I have one record that names his wife as Eleanor but no last maiden name.Any help in sorting this puzzle out is much appreciated. They were Protestant likely church of Ireland but they changed to Methodist soon after arriving in Canada. One other bit of family lore is that they left Germany spent three generations in Ireland than emigrated to Canada. So far I haven't been able to prove or disprove that bit of family lore. I had though that it might have something to do with the Palatines as the dates are fairly close but I've searched all the emigrated lists on the Palliatives and so far have never found any Kerfoot's. But of coarse it could be from one of the other branches and there are lots of Smith's. Hugh

I have added the GV for both Aglish and Abbeyleix civil parishes to the County Kilkenny section of my website. I also updated the Surname Registry so if you submitted a name in the past month or so, please check it for accuracy. Hi, I am researching the Keating family. Sarah/Margaret her sister Bridget and a brother. The 2 sisters and brother were convicted of stealing offences in Kilkenny City in Aug 1816. They were sentenced to 7 years transportation to Australia. Sarah and Bridget arrived in N S W Australia in Aug 1817 on the Canada, I don't yet know what became of the brother. I have a copy of the ship record which states the Sarah 16 years old, Bridget 19 years old and an Ann Kelly 23 years old were from Kilkenny City. They were all housekeepers. I have some records in Australia and sending off for more but I see on the National Archives of Ireland details on Sarah with comments from the Inspector of Kilkenny goal that Sarah was innocent and her brother and sister committed the theft, does anyone have any advice on how I may purchase copies of the Trial by internet or mail. Thank you from Belinda.
Dear Mike, Thanks very much. Your spelling is probably the correct one as my information was verbal and I may have misunderstood. Angie
