A search of the 1900 and 1910 census images shows that Mary was b. NY and the aunt Anges DeElasusia was born NY. If you want definitive information regarding the birth place of Francis X. Dunphy I suggest you order the social security application or the birth records from Co. Kilkenny as previously suggested. However, looking at the census records it is more likely he was born in the US.

However,I do know that my grandfather was once married before he met my grandmother Isabelle Smith. My grandfather was married to a woman with the last name of Young. We believe her first name was Gertrude. She died before 1920.My grandparents Francis and Isabelle Dunphy married in NJ in December 1920. There is alot of confusion here and hopefully I can get it straightened out.Again, thank you very much for your time and if you come acrossed any additional information feel free to email me.

My grandfather married # 1 wife( Gertrude,we're not sure of her first name) Young of Queens County,New York. She was the d/o Jacob and Caroline Young of Queens County,NY.Gertrude had two sisters,Florence and Dorothy. We think Gertrude had a brother also named Jacob Young.Gertrude died before 1920 and how I know this is because my grandmother Isabelle Smith married Francis Xavier Dunphy in 1920 in Trenton,NJ. Francis death certificate states that he was born in New York City,NY on December 6,1890.But Francis told how he came over from Ireland and the only thing my mom could come up with is that there was no naturalization papers fill out( that we know of ) and this is how his death certificate stated that Francis was born in New York City,NY. I need proof that Francis Xavier Dunphy was born in Kilkenny,Ireland.

    1. [KILKENNY] Lawrence DANIEL born about 1812 - 1817
    2. Fred Kopfler
    3. Lawrence DANIEL is said to have come to the U.S. from Kilkenny, Ireland. He was born about 1812 - 1817. According to family tradition his first wife was Mary BURNS (BYRNES) who may have been from Scotland. They had two children born in Ireland: Ellen was born in September 1842 (1860 U.S. census records) or on September 8, 1844 (death certificate) and Patrick was born on March 16, 1846 (death certificate). The family supposedly left Ireland for the U.S. in 1847 - 1850. According to the tradition of Ellen's descendants, Mary BURNS died on the voyage to the U.S. and was buried at sea; Lawrence sent back to Ireland for a new wife. He married Johanna MAHER on 13 April 1850 at what is now St. Peter's - St. Paul's - Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. It has been suggested that Lawrence may have been a member of a group of the BRENNAN family near Castlecomer that uses DANIEL as a nickname. Another person found that in their Kilkenny family, DANIEL was the Anglo name forced upon those of the O'DONNELL Clan (Catholics) in the early 1800s. I will appreciate any leads or suggestions. I did find some land records showing both in possession oflands in 1876 . THe Dennefe lands were listed at aprox 10 acres , to a John DeNeefe , The Commons , Knocktopher . I would be greatly interested in sharing any information you may have . If my guess is correct , you may be related to Richard DeNeefe , who from what i have been able to gather was a " cousin" ( since my grandmother is very old , that was the closest account of the connection i could get!) Hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely , Ellen
