Hi Listers, I am new to this list and am wondering by chance if someone may be able to help me. My Husbands g.grandparents came to Australia in 1877 on the "Samuel Plimsoll". Although I have some information on this family in Australia, I have very little details on their lives before shipping here. Their names were PATRICK CONDON & his wife MARGARET (nee MURPHY). They came to Australia free with their 9 children --MARY, ANNE, CATHERINE, HUGH, BRIDGET, MARGARET, JULIA, MICHAEL, JAMES. The ages of the children on arrival ranged from 17 to an infant. PATRICK & MARGARET had another another 2 children born after their arrival - ELIZABETH & ELLEN. The Shipping Indent states PATRICK CONDON came from Queens County. He was a farm labourer. His father's name was HUGH CONDON. (Mother's name not stated.) Religion: Roman Catholic. He married MARGARET MURPHY in Kilkenny. When ? - Not sure but if we take a look at the Indent the eldest child was 17 yrs old in 1877 so she was born C 1860. Going on this we could assume they were married in the previous couple of years. MARGARET MURPHY came from Kilkenny. Her parents were JAMES & MARGARET MURPHY (maiden name unknown,) Her Father was a farmer. On her Death Certificate in 1895 it states she is 54 years of age, married in Kilkenny at the age of 17. This would show she was born C1841 and married C1858. My question is: How am I to trace their Marriage from here in Australia. Can someone point me in the right direction. By doing so I may be able to find more information and hopefully trace their Births and that of their Irish children. Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation. here is the description of the NARA records: Function and Use: The Center for Immigration Research (CIR), The Balch Institute, Temple University created this series to contain information about immigrants from Ireland to the United States during the era of the Irish Potato Famine 1846-1851. It was extracted from ship passenger lists in the records of the U.S. Customs Service (NARA Record Group 36). Scope & Content Note: These materials identify 604,596 persons who arrived in the United States, 1846-1851, and the ships on which they arrived. The project that created them identifies the materials as the Famine Irish Collection; their published version limits the immigrants to persons who arrived at the port of New York, 1846-1851. Approximately 30 percent of the passenger records list the native country as other than Ireland. These include Canada, Brazil, Saint Croix, Russia, Morocco, the United States and countries throughout Europe. There are a total of 33 country codes for these data files, including Ireland. The collection consists of four electronic files. The primary file is the Famine Irish Passenger Record File (FIPAS) that includes passenger lists with the personal names involved in this wave of immigration. Three additional files supplement it and serve as electronic code files. They are the Famine Irish Manifest Header File, the Famine Irish Port Code List and the Famine Irish Country Code List. Each of the FIPAS records contains data on a passenger and may include name, age, town of last residence, destination, passenger arrival date, and codes for passenger's sex, occupation, literacy, native country, transit status, travel compartment, passenger port of embarkation, and the identification number for the ship manifest. These records include passengers aboard ships with both Irish and non-Irish ports of embarkation for emigration to America. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
