I have a g-grandmother Margaret Kelley, b. in Kilkenny about 1821, who married James Pendergast, b. about 1819. I do not know where he is from except it is Ireland. I do not know if they were married in Ireland or in the US. They settled in Livingston County, NY, sometime in the 1850s. Margaret's parents were John Kelley and Anna Hines. Trying to discover where in Kilkenny Margaret came from and where in Ireland James Pendergast came from. Any connections here? Carol

See http://www.groireland.ie/ However, the date of birth you list ca. 1865 is questionable. Her date of birth is listed as 1862 in the 1881 English census which you can search on www.familysearch.org. Mike

My g-grandfather James was born in Ireland, probably around 1819, I do not know where. But I do know that his wife, Margaret Kelley, was born in Kilkenny; her parents were John Kelley and Anna Hines--no town so far. I still don't know whether James and Margaret were married there or here. NY State was where they settled, Livingston County, first sighted in the 1860 federal census. At that time James was about 41 and Margaret about 30-35. In a previous posting on this board, under a query about a Ryan family, I found this as part of a conversation:"do you have any idea what town in Kilkenny? My ancestors are from the parish of Danesfort, town of Annamult,. . . My names are Pendergast/Prendergast, Maher, and Fannan.. . ." There's more. The poster was Maryann <[email protected]> As you can see, I'm clutching at straws to make a connection here. But I have had luck piecing together this sort of thing with other ancestral lines. One of these days we Pendergasts will find our connections. Carol in Florida

You might want to try and track down a book called "In Search of the Forlorn Hope" , the author's last name is Kitzmiller I believe. Anyway this book is a great resource on which regiment was posted where.
Today I got a message from [email protected] telling me that my account has been attacked by a virus and I should open the zip file attached to see the specific info about my account. While I have Norton running at all times and completely updated, I was not warned of a virus, plus my mail goes through Yahoo mail and gets scanned there before even getting to my computer. Since there was an attachment, I didn't open it but replied to support and got back an automated notice from them that they would answer my mail ASAP (still haven't replied, however). So, I deleted the original email and it went into my trash. Later I decided to check Norton and found, yes it was a new worm called Beagle, see description here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected] We have had at least three new virus/worms this week and I told you the above story because I actually thought about opening the attachment but because I know these virus originators can be tricky, I didn't and right now I am really happy I didn't act out my impulse. I have since emptied my trash to get rid of it. Evidently, it got in before Norton found about about it and could send the definition to my program which, in turn, gives me a warning when I get an email with a virus attachment. They have since updated my virus protection. Please be careful with your mail. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
I have updated the various Irish book lists on my website with more than 100 more books, many with lookup volunteers. They include Parish History, Local History, General Irish History, Genealogy, Mythology, Forklore and many other types of books. If you submitted a book last month, please check your entry for accuracy. If you are a Lookup Volunteer and your email address has changed, please let me know. I was amazed at the generosity of the many Irish list readers who not only took the time to submit a book but also volunteered to do lookups. Thanks to all of you. If you find a book you would like to buy, on the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List webpage, there are many Irish bookstores linked. Also, a new link is to Emigrant-On-Line where you can find over 1000 Irish book reviews. You can access the webpages at the URL below my name. At my home page, at the top, under Ireland there is a drop down menu, click on Ireland Books. This will take you to the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List webpage, near the bottom under, 'Previous Posts', you will find links to the Ireland Book List which include all but the Parish History Books. Their links are a bit under the Ireland Book List link. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
I don't know if this is any relation for Carmel, but it might be a hint of where to look for Cronyn's in Kilkenny County. According to the "Irish Land Owners in 1876" book listing anyone owning one acre or more of land that year in Kilkenny County is the following: Cronyn, Sarah, from Thomastown, owned 103 acres valued at 71 pounds, 5 shillings. I do research for people needing help from South Australia - it's a hobby I do it for free, and for the challenge! Somehow I overlooked this information when I sent other information off to other people, so am sending this to you now. BIRTH. William Christopher, born 30th December 1880 Adelaide Dis. Adelaide to Samuel Flewellen and Susannah nee Brown. Reference no. book 253 page 246. (Our birth records go from 1842 - 1906, and this is the only Flewellen birth registered here). I also found the following arrival from overseas which may just fit in with your research somewhere. Sarah Flewellen, aged 28years, single, domestic servent from Ireland, arrived South Australia 24th December 1875 aboard the "Lady Joycelyn". That's all I found. Hope it is of some interest/help to you. Should you want me to do any "looking up" for you, regarding this or any other surname, please don't hesitate to ask. I try to get to the library about every week or two, and would be happy to add your request to my list. Regards Heather from Kapunda (the first mining town in South Australia) South Australia. P.S. My husband, Peter, and I are Salvation Army Officers here in Kapunda. Don't let that scare you off! We're both just human!!
