Margaret Smyth remarried William Cody after the death of her husband Thomas. She had 4-5 additional children in her 2nd marriage.

I did see your Walter Ryan and Mary Cody in BOHERAWARRAGA, Callan. Do you have their sponsors at the baptisms? If not, I have copied them. There were 2 other Walter Ryans, one married Judith Dunne in the late 1846's in Maxtowne, one married Bridget Naughton early 1840's in Tullamaine. In 1840 Walter Ryan was sponsor at baptism of Patrick Ryan, son of Thomas Ryan. It's hard to figure on the children, but there were 2 marriages for Johanna Ryan in all the records. One married Richard Walsh in Mar. 1881 and the other married John Cass in Feb. 1881.Seems a bit late based on your Johanna's b-date, but then it could have been a second marriage. Or a granddaughter. There is also a Honoria Ryan married to a John Neill in 1828, Tullamane. Interestingly there is a Patrick Ryan married to a Margaret Hanly (my Hanleys were not from Kilkenny) and their son was Walter Ryan b. 1841. Maybe that is your Patrick? If so, let me know, and I will see what else I might have. Meanwhile, these are all the Walter Ryans I could find in the records...a Walter Ryan was sponsor at bapt. for the following children 1832 SLATERY CALLAN 1833 RYAN MALLARDST'N 1835 MAGRATH MALLARDT' 1835 MAHER BOHERAWARAGA 1836 LYNCH MALLARDTOWN 1837 GUILFOYLE MAXTOWN 1837 RYAN MINNAUNS 1841 HAYDEN MAXTOWN 1841 CLANCY KILKIMMICK 1847 BOWE BRIDGE ST. 3. I don't know if this will be helpful to you or not since it may not be the right Delaney family but in the book "Land Owners in Ireland [in] 1876" which lists anyone owing 1 acre or more of land in that year are the following Delaney listings for Kilkenny County. Delaney, James M., George's Park, Kilcooley, owned 301 acres, valued at 256 pounds, 5 shillings Delaney, Dr. John, Freshford, 90 acres, value 42 L 5 S Delany, Simon, Bauntha, Callan, owned 6 acres, value 4 L 5 S Having said that, my great-grandmother was Johanna Delaney Young, born approximately 1854. She lived in Williamstown at the time of her marriage in 1877 in Gurtnahoe, Urlingford Parish, Tipperary. Johanna may have had several sisters, Bridget, Mary, and Ellen, as well as a brother Nicholas who were godparents to several of Johanna's children. Nicholas and Johanna's husband both were tenant farmers in the Lisballyfroot area of Tullaroan, County Kilkenny and her father's name was Edmond, the same as her husbands. My Delaney's were a generation before your James, which could possibly make them relatives of his father. If you come across a connection to any of these names, I would love to hear about it. 3. The following marriage licenses are from the "Appendix to Thirtieth Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records in Ireland" for the Diocese of Dublin. Kilkenny is the Diocese of Ossory, but since you are having difficulties finding Kirby's I thought I would send it along. See entry for William Kirby below especially. Kirby, Charlotte and Samuel Darker, 1831 Kirby, David Henry and Mary Kenny, 1826 Kirby, Edward (Rev.) and Emily Henchy, 1840 Kirby, Edward and Elizabeth Kelly, 1826 Kirby, Eliza and Richard Sunderland, 1845 Kirby, Elizabeth and Hull Stephen Browning, 1816 Kirby, Elizabeth and Robert O'Brien, 1838 Kirby, Emily and Thomas Colhoun, 1841 Kirby, George and Mary Gerty, 1847 Kirby, James and Lucy Ann Boate, 1815 Kirby, James and Martha Winnett, 1842 Kirby, Jane Rose and George West, 1826 Kirby, John and Ellen Susannah Carr, 1815 Kirby, John and Lucinda Rose, 1801 Kirby, John and Frances Susannah Singleton, 1826 Kirby, Mary Louisa and Wilhelm Fredrech Bernard Klein, 1848 Kirby, Sydney Henry Joseph and Jane Cross, 1851 Kirby, Thomas and Jane Nelson, 1811 Kirby, William and Euphemia Talbot, 1823 Alternative spelling "Kerby": Kerby, Helen and William Gorman, 1821 Kerby, James and Susannah Bluett, 1805 Talbot's (there are many of them, but I am only listing the Mary's here): Talbot, Mary and Patrick Monaghan, 1832 Talbot, Mary and James Rooney, 1808 Good luck in your search. I know that Jonh Kirby and his wife Mary Talbot came over from Kilkenny (on what ship or what port I don't know). I know one of their daughters, Mary Kirby, is my great great grandmother who married a WIndham in Mississippi. They had my great grandmother Lula Melverne Windham who then bore my grandfather, James Robert Sherman. He then married Sammi Lynn Davis who then had my mother Janet Lynn Sherman, and then she married my dad William Russell Crumby. I have a picture of John Kirby and a copy of his residency slip for Mobile, AL (he died there about 1898/1899). Any information anyone can give me on Kirbys in Kilkenny or Ireland in general would be appreciated. Since it's been so difficult to trace, I starting to wonder if Kirby is the original spelling and if John is originally from Kilkenny. > > ==== IRL-KILKENNY Mailing List ==== > AUSTRALIA in your family tree???? > Join the Australia-GenWeb mailing list and get history and genealogical information. > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUSTRALIA-GENWEB.html > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 1. Re: Follow-up To [KILKENNY] Bio of James J Ryan
    2. Thomas Crane
    3. Hi Cathy, Small world! My great-grandfather, Patrick Crehan, left Silvermines, Tipperary in 1866 and traveled to Rondout/Kingston, New York where he worked in the quarries from 1868 to 1875. I noticed that the information that you posted on James J. Ryan included the fact that his father, John Ryan, worked for a year in the Rondout cement mill as a foreman before he traveled west. Unfortunately, my family was destined to live a hard-scrabble life only to be swallowed up by the work in the mines. They always remained destitute whereas James Ryan went on to become an established citizen and owned many acres of farmland. Such is the fickle finger of fate or whatever you may want to call it. Us "Shanty" Irish are known for our hard work, but with little reward in the end. Me own Dear Father often told me, "If I ever catch you with a pick or shovel in your hands, I will break your back so that you will never be able to lift them again." Such was the manual work that my father hated so much and yet, loved me so much that he worked so hard to protect me from. That is a common trait among the Irish in that the parents will oftentimes sacrifice themselves for the welfare of their children. My father was, to me, a Great Irish Hero and I will always be grateful to him for the sacrifices that he made for me in order that I might find a better life. May he rest in peace.
