    3. Not knowing the dates you're interested in or the records, I'll just give general information: Here are the websites for information at the various research locations in Dublin: National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/ National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ Both the National Library and National Archives have a free genealogy service staffed by professional Irish genealogists to help in your research. Valuation Office (Griffiths Valuation and Cancellation Books, Ordnance Survey maps) http://www.valoff.ie/ General Register Office (Vital Records) http://www.groireland.ie/ Bookshops! If you get a chance Easons on O'Connell St. (near the GPO and Millenium Monument) is a good spot to get reference books (and there's a handy internet cafe nearby). Another good bookseller is Hodges and Figgis on Dawson St. not far from Grafton St. You can find some good maps and historical documents for your research. Maps: If possible, get whatever maps you can relating to the areas you're researching in Kildare. Often you can't find them outside Ireland. The Discovery Maps are a good resource. The numbers covering Kildare are 49, 50, 55, 56 and 61. You'll need to look at the individual maps to be sure the coverage area is what you want. Other: Traffic in Dublin will be quite congested so allow more time than you expect. There are generally many others researching at the same locations so there may be lines or delays. Bring as much information on your ancestors as possible. Often people come to Ireland to do research but unfortunately either don't have or don't bring the necessary data. Genealogical staff at both the National Library and National Archives will tell you the same thing. Enjoy your trip and good luck! Eilis O'Hara Ed Kenna said: I expect to be spending a few days in Dublin, in Oct. I am interested in furthering my Kenna, Whelan and Owens of Kildare search. Any an all suggestions will be appreciated. ===== ***NO UNSOLICITED PERSONAL E-MAILS PLEASE. THANKS!*** ________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
