Mary, A good bookshop in Galway Town is Kennys on High St. It has a large number of books and has been in business for over 50 years. Depending on local proprietors, some may have very localised history books, parish histories etc. In addition to the Discovery map(s), I recommend you also get a very detailed roadmap that shows as many of the rural roads and smaller towns as possible. There are some just for Galway and others for the entire country. There's been construction going on in Eyre Square in Galway Town and as of today I don't know what progress is being made but you may find some congestion resulting from that in addition to normal traffic.
