Kevin, another one worth mentioning was Captain Keating of Narraghmore whose mansion was destroyed by the government forces led by Colonel Campbell en route to Ballitore from Athy on the 27th May 1798. Keating, a liberal was suspected of complicity with the United Irishmen. Interestingly in Patrick C Power's "The Courts Martial of 1878-99" he singles out Colonel Campbell, Captain Swayne and Captain Erskine "who carried out a policy of brutality towards the population, especially the catholics and looted their property. Campbell led his men to Ballitore, for example, where people were flogged not just to secure information but really to terrorise the population and above all the Catholics."
