    1. Baptism Sponsors
    2. Is anyone familiar with any customs or requirements followed regarding sponsors for RC baptisms around 1840-50's, i.e., was there an age requirement, were they usually a family member, did they list the woman's married or maiden name, were they usually a married couple? I ran across information listing sponsors for my ggrandfather and his 2 older brothers during that time in Newtown Parish, Kilcock, Co. Kildare and was hoping I could find something more about the MULLIGAN/FORD family through these sponsors. If anyone is familiar with any of the following, please contact me to see if there is any connection: 1. John Keenan and Margaret Mulligan were sponsors for Thomas R. Mulligan about 1846-48; 2. John Griffin and Betty Mulligan were sponsors for David Mulligan (twin #1); 3. John Mulligan and Madge Moran were sponsors for Patrick Mulligan (twin #2). All three boys were sons of William Mulligan and Allitia (Alice) Ford (Forde). In the same records there is information pertaining to Patrick Mulligan and Rose Keenan and their children, Anna (baptized 5/21/1846); Patrick (baptized 5/30/1847), Peter (baptized 4/15/1855); and Margaret (baptized 12/11/1857). Thank you for any information. Kathleen Smith
