According to my research, my great-grandmother, who married Michael O'Shea of Waterville Co. Kerry April 15, 1861 in St John Church Tralee Co. Kerry as Bridget Dunne of Kildare Co. Kildare. I know that shortly after 4/1861 they moved to America and settled in Norwich, CT where Michael's mother and sister were working as weavers because on 9/17/1862 he joined the 26th CT Vol Inf and went off to the Civil War to serve. By 4/1868 they were in Troy, N.Y. where a daughter Hanna (Anna) was born and they had one other daughter with them at that time, Mary born in 1863 in Norwich. The 1900 Census showed they had 7 children 3 living which we know were Anna, Michael T. and John Joseph, my grandfather, Mary died before the 1880 census but was in the 1875 N.Y. Census. We have been unable to identify the other 3 children although we have a note refering to a Bridget born in 1862 in Norwich. On all offical documents and census records they were listed as Michael and Bridget Shea, except Michael's military records which list him as MIchael Shay. Bridget could speak, read and write english but Michael could only speak english with a heavy accent. Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
