    1. Re: Family re-union in Lullymore

    3. Hi, I like to share this story of my trip to Ireland with the list. It's a great story not be cause it happened to me, but it shows that if you stay at it the research does pay off ...big time. I've got a story for that I think you'll love being researchers, about my re-union with my cousins in Co.Kildare. We did the typical bus tour of Ireland starting out from Shannon airport. Then to Galway for a couple of days from there we headed to Killareny from there we headed to the Co.Kerry area around Dingle bay. Then though Co.Cork up to Dublin City for a 2 day stay. On Thursday the 29 of Sept. I called my Cousin Helen Gorey(my mother's mother family) who knew that we would be in Dublin for 2 days. She said, that her and father would pick us up in the morning on Sept.30 at about 9:30a.m.to bring us back to Rathangan, Co.Kildare to meet her family and visit the local cemeteries to get photos of the family stones. We went to their house the same one my grand mother lived in the 1890's. We had some tea and scones talked awhile and then left to visit the cemeteries. From there they took Trish(my wife)and me to lunch(9 of us) at a local hotel and pub (best food I had in Ireland). Then we went to the Lullymore Heritage Center where my cousin Helen works for private tour of the center www.lullymorepark.com Unknown to me Helen had sent out a letter to all the cousins telling them about our visit and how the researcher from Dublin that I was using had got us together, and that she had planned a re-union party at the center. Sixty of my cousins responded that would be there for the re-union ... amazing. Now I figured I would be meeting a couple back at their house latter in the evening ... boy did I figure wrong. As we were taking the tour Helen took my wife aside and told her that there would be about sixty cousins waiting for us at the center. What a surprise I found when I walk into the room. The building was a complete replica of the house my grand mother grow up in, complete with a peat burning hearth all fired up. Plus Helen had a chart from the ceiling to the floor with all the research we had collected with the help of the researcher, photos of my gr-mother Kate, my mother, Kate's brothers & sisters, school records, ship's manifest, birth records and wedding records. She even had the American & Ireland flags hanging from the ceiling. Then to top that she had the researcher there also. Plus all kinds of pies, scones, tea, coffee, wine, sandwiches ... unbelievable. Then the local newspaper came and took pictures and put a story in the paper http://www.leinsterleader.ie/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=4&DocumentID=17820 wait till you read the article. I was almost in tears after I walk into the room and saw the chart on the wall and all my cousins and the 2 flags hanging up. I was speechless!! It was the high light of my trip, nothing could top this. From there we left for 3 days in London. We had a great time seeing the sites even took the subway and buses, but nothing could beat Fridays re-union. The researcher wants to put the story in the Ireland Genealogy Societies magazine. She also wants to use it for her final paper for her certification, something like a masters program in Genealogy Research. What a trip to remember !! Latter, Norm H.
