I did this with my Dunne's. I wrote to the five names listed in the Eircom directory in the small town in Co. Kildare where my ancestor was born (1791) I got one lovely reply from an elderly gentleman because it seems they either knew one another or were related in some way. It didn't come to anything because their ancestors originally were from a different area but it at least it discounted one avenue of search. I enclosed a stamped self-addressed envelope.
