Author: Wombat_47 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.kid.general/2283.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Patrick Purcell (and there are lots!) married Elizabeth (Hemfit/Henifit) in Sheffield 1856, not long before they sailed for Australia with Elizabeth's brother. None of Elizabeth's family are listed on the 1851 UK Census, so can only assume that they arrived post-Census. Patrick died 19 May, 1898, aged 74 years, and was buried at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery, Sydney. His death registration shows parents as "Unknown". Patrick's son, also Patrick, married in 1886, had the first few children in Sydney and then, in the late 1890's, took the family to Western Australia, where more children were born. It appears Patrick was mining - the birth of one of the children was registered at Kalgoolie, another at Leonora. The family returned to Sydney c.1914. On the Western Australia Postal Directory I have picked up a Patrick Purcell and a Peter Purcell both listed for a time living very near Kalgoolie. I have no idea if this is my Patrick or not, but very curious. The last child born to young Patrick and Catherine was named Daniel Peter. The names are not used by any other members of the family - and this is a family of three brothers, two sisters, and their three first cousins who stuck to the same small pool of forenames for at least two generations. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy the UK marriage cert in the hope that the name of elder Patrick's father is on it. Shame they don't have the mother's name though.
