The O'Mores (found since 1730 in the colonies as "Moore") kept track of their predecessors by the use of the prefix, "mac", meaning "first-born". Some information is contained in the International Genealogical Index, available at Ancestry dot com. Here are some of my conclusions: In 1548 Gillpatrick mac Connell mac Melaghlin O'More, lord of Leix, died. In 1558, Rory Oge O'More became Lord of Leix at age 20. His wife's name was Jane (sometimes called "Genet") Barnewall, grand-daughter of one of my ancestors. Jane died about 1577. I can only find two children, Anne and Shane. On September 30th 1578, Shane mac Rory O'More submitted, along with Teig McGilpatrick O'Conor, at Castledermot in Kilkenny. I believe the next month, Rory was hanged at Dublin Castle. Jane, his wife was descended from the Barnewalls of Dublin (Dublin Castle). This is not so odd, as you study the O'Mores, you will find they mostly fough! t amongst themselves and their near relatives. I believe this is the main reason the line nearly became extinct in 1641. The "Ellenor" you refer to in your post COULD be Eleanor Barnewall (b. 1584), daughter of Sir Patrick Barnewall and Mary Bagnall. I have found no proof of this yet. In researching these blue-blood families, please take into account the fact that marriage licenses were sometimes granted before the individual reached the age of ten. This was done to guarantee the continuance of title in case there were no surviving adult male members of the family. (slain in battle). So, if it looks like a boy was married at age nine, it just means his parents arranged the marriage when he was nine years old. That's about all I have, and I will continue to pick through my sources. - Stan - Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
